Last year, Venture Kick supported 82 new projects with close to CHF5.5 million. Since 2007, the 841 Swiss startups supported by Venture Kick have attracted more than CHF 5.3 billion in investment and created more than 9000 jobs.

Venture Kick looks back at another successful year: In 2021, the philanthropic initiative received 675 applications and supported 82 new projects from universities across Switzerland with CHF 5.46 million. The top-10 financing rounds of 2021 raised more than CHF 460 million, and the Venture Kick startups created about 1000 new jobs during the year.

The 14-year analysis shows a very strong survival rate of 85% and CHF 8.57 million invested on average per incorporated company. “Every CHF 1 invested by Venture Kick is followed by CHF 133 from other financing sources, demonstrating the attractiveness of the supported startups for investors,” commented Beat Schillig, co-managing director of Venture Kick. “And that 59 Venture Kick alumni are among the TOP 100 Swiss Startups of 2021 is another impressive quality stamp.”

Moving to a new home with ambitious goals for the new year

In 2021, Venture Kick became part of the new Kick Foundation and saw the launch of Kickfund, an independent CHF 60 million fund ready to invest in the startups selected at the final stage of Venture Kick. For 2022, Venture Kick increased the budget by 10% to CHF 6.1 million, planning for 51 jury sessions. “The incredible market success of our supported entrepreneurs motivates us to tackle the ambitious growth objectives set for 2022 and beyond. And the new proposition for winning startups, offering more than CHF 1 million from Venture Kick and Kickfund, will add to the growing numbers of high-quality projects applications,” said Jordi Montserrat, co-managing director of Venture Kick.

Venture Kick celebrates 15 years of “kicking” startups to success

In 2022, Venture Kick will celebrate its 15th anniversary with special activities and campaigns throughout the year. In November, an anniversary party will mark the milestone: “We are proud of the innovation ecosystem that we helped to shape and strengthen in the last 15 years. Venture Kick has become a strong quality label for spin-offs from Swiss universities—not only well respected by Swiss investors but by leading investors around the globe. We look forward to celebrating with all the people who made these inspiring achievements and the overall success possible: our successful alumni, all long-time donors, jury members, board members, and team members,” said Pascale Vonmont, president of the Venture Kick Strategy Board.
