Swiss startups in the spotlight in Turkey, Tokyo and beyond

Six startups have impressed juries worldwide with their Sustainable, Fintech and Biotech solutions, winning themselves cash prizes and honour. Composite Recycling and Swiss AirTainers received cash prizes of € 25’000 and USD 15’000 respectively.

The Air Cargo Innovation Awards competition is organised by the International Air Transport Association (IATA). Winners were awarded during the 16th World Cargo Symposium (WCS) in Istanbul, Turkey. Swiss Airtainer won the category ‘Start-ups and Innovators Innovation Award’ receiving a cash prize of USD 15’000. The startup developed a smart, lightweight temperature-controlled container for pharmaceutical goods shipment.

JEC World 2023 | Composite recycling
Composite Recycling is the winner of the JEC World 2023 startup booster program for Composites & Advanced Materials. Aiming at entrepreneurs, SMEs, startups and academic spinoffs building innovative projects in the above fields, the program offers a CHF 25’000 cash prize to the most outstanding innovation. The winner, Composite Recycling, uses mobilised recycling units to recover reusable glass fibre and oil to make new composites and new plastics.

Future Digital Awards | Medisante
Medisante won the platinum prize in the category Innovative Telemedicine Solution of the Future Digital Awards for Digital Health Innovation of Juniper Research, which recognizes the most innovative and disruptive vendors and solutions in the rapidly changing healthcare industry. The company built medical IoT cloud infrastructure to enable seamless device interoperability and multi-vendor remote device monitoring for a broad range of devices that connect direct2cloud.

SBI Investment Award, Tokyo | Futurae
The SBI Investment Award held at Fin/Sum 2023 in Tokyo went to Futurae, the Swiss startup specializing in authentication solutions. The company provides companies with a seamless end-user authentication, transaction confirmation, and fraud prevention solution, securing millions of customers of some of the world’s largest banks and financial institutions, online retailers, hospitals, and public institutions. The Fin/Sum Impact Pitch was created to respond to business challenges with a lasting impact on the financial services industry.

SOPHiA GENETICS and Humab receive Swiss Biotech Success Stories
Organised by the Swiss Biotech Association, the Swiss Biotech Success Stories Awards aims to illustrate how Swiss biotech companies help patients, improve healthcare worldwide, and make a valuable and significant contribution to the Swiss and global economies. Two Swiss startups have received this recognition. SOPHiA GENETICS, which built a cloud-native software platform driven by artificial intelligence and machine learning (known as SOPHiA DDM™) that facilitates information-sharing and can lead to breakthroughs for clinicians and researchers, particularly in relation to life-threatening diseases such as cancer and rare inherited disorders.

The second company is Ticino-based Humabs Biomed, which was acquired by Vir Biotechnology. Humbas Biomed, a spin-off from the Institute of Biomedical Research (IRB) Bellinzona developing superior monoclonal antibodies. The company relies on its cutting-edge proprietary CellClone technologies to discover effective new treatments against a variety of viral and bacterial infections.
