Softbank, PwC and award jurys select Swiss start-ups

Health tech start-ups Juli and Hi-D as well as three fintech startups made it to the Softbank, PWC and Arkansas HealthTech accelerator programs, respectively. While they benefit from weeks of support and access to a broad ecosystem, four other Swiss startups celebrate winning prizes in different competitions.

Juli joins Softbank’s Emerge accelerator programme
The SoftBank Vision Fund Emerge programme, in partnership with Speedinvest, promotes diversity in tech and entrepreneurship by partnering underrepresented founders with the capital, tools, and network they need to scale their business. Founded by Bettina Hein, one of the lions in Switzerland’s shark tank TV show, Juli, an AI-powered app for anyone with chronic conditions, is among the beneficiaries. The programme offered Juli funding to help scale the business. The team will attend workshops, receive mentorship from seasoned investors, and tap the Vision Fund network during the next eight weeks.

PWC Scale Finance Transformation Programme, Germany
BLP Digital AG, Adamant Lane, Yokoy have joined the PWC’s Scale Finance Transformation Programme, which brings together the startup ecosystem and creates a platform for exchange between startups, corporates and strategic investors. The programme also helps startups to grow and provides specialist support and access to markets, customers and investors. The selected fintech startups developed platforms to enable automatic information extraction from documents using artificial intelligence, facilitate the financial supply chain, and provide an all-in-one spend management platform.

Hi-D selected for accelerator for cardiovascular technologies, USA
Hi-D Imaging is selected for HealthTech Arkansas Healthcare Accelerator 2021 program, which is focused exclusively on companies delivering cardiovascular technologies (devices, digital health and diagnostics), or innovations that can be targeted primarily to cardiac patient populations (e.g. remote patient monitoring). The selected companies will receive seed investment as well as complete and total access to clinicians and administrators while executing their pilot projects. Hi-D will use the program to accelerate the US market entry in 2022.

Plair wins Geneva Innovation Prize, Switzerland
Held within the framework of the Grands Prix de l’Economie, the Geneva Innovation Prize recognises companies whose reputation and influence convey a positive and dynamic image of Geneva. This year’s prize went to Plair, founded seven years ago as a spin-off from the University of Geneva by Denis Kiselev and Svetlana Kiseleva. The company developed a breakthrough technology for real-time particle detection. Since then, its systems have been installed in 14 countries across the globe for allergen and bioaerosol detection. Plair’s ongoing work has led to a new method of rapid microbiological identification, which allows real-time particle monitoring in sterile manufacturing.

HexagonFab wins SLAS award
SLAS (Society for Laboratory Automation and Screening) selected HexagonFab as the top Innovation AveNEW startup at ELRIG UK Drug Discovery 2021. The prize includes tickets that allow HexagonFab to attend SLAS2022 or SLAS Europe 2020 as an Innovation AveNEW participant and compete for the $5,000 SLAS Ignite Award. The Zurich and UK based startup provides analytical tools for interaction analysis of new compounds. These tools help to shorten development timelines and ensure efficient drug production.

TRIQ Triathlon’s CEO recognised
The TRIQ triathlon app is the first dynamic training planner for endurance athletes based. Using machine learning technology, the app creates an individual training schedule for all three sports. When training is skipped, the app readjusts the training schedule in real-time and optimises upcoming sessions to allow athletes to stay on track with their race. Ahead of its planned launch this year, the founding team has received recognition. The company’s CEO Boris Manhart won the title CEO of the Year from CEO Monthly, a branch of AI Global Media, an internationally focused B2B digital publishing group. Manhart is also known for his early engagement in the startup scene. He was CEO of Code Check and co-founded companies such as Numbrs and Compresso.

Stor H awarded at Sino-Swiss Award ceremony
STOR-H accepted the swissnex Award for Most Innovative Startup/ Entrepreneur. As part of the Sino-Swiss Business Awards, the award recognises and honours Swiss/Chinese startups or entrepreneurs who have demonstrated significant innovation in fostering Sino-Swiss ties in fields regarding sustainability. The Geneva-based startup leverages significant intellectual property concerning the solid storage of hydrogen to enable zero-CO2 light mobility through the use of its STOR-H cartridges.
