DermoSafe SA, a local start-up from the Romandie with a strong client base in the Centre Médical in Martigny, wins the eHealth Showdown at Technopôle Sierre in a national trial of strength. Ten finalists from all language regions of Switzerland came together to compete before a specialist jury. The winner, DermoSafe, is a company that has developed an Internet-based solution for the early detection of skin cancer.

The eHealth Showdown was the highlight of the present Swiss Startup Summit campaign: a full house with ten top finalists from the eHealth field, a hand-picked specialist jury with local representatives, and several guests from politics and business, set the scene superbly at the ultra-modern e-Health building in Switzerland, located in the heart of the Valais mountain landscape.

In his speech, Eric Bianco, Head of Business Development for the canton of Valais showed that he was impressed with the Swiss Startup Summit initiative, the professional event production and the high quality of the projects, which the ten finalists presented to a specialist jury.

The winner, DermoSafe SA, managed by founder Philippe Held, decided the race with its Internet-based method for the early detection of skin cancer.

The other nine eHealth start-ups were also convincing – each of the participants in the final still has the opportunity to appear at the Forum in Fribourg, based on public voting in the grand final on 22 September 2016. Public voting for the first series began on 9 June and continues up to midnight on 8 July 2016 – all those interested in start-ups can take part in the voting.

The following companies made it to the 2016 eHealth final: Swiss Medendi SA from Lugano, PB&B SA from Lausanne, Topadur Pharma AG from Schlieren, Gondola for Parkinson from Lugano, Sympto.org from Lully, SimplicityBio SA from Monthey, MedicalGlass from Sierre & Gait up SA from Lausanne.

The top-class specialist jury, consisting of Sébastien Mabillard (coordinator of Swiss Digital Health), Thierry Duvanel (director of Swiss Biotech Center Monthey), Michael Schumacher (Professor of HES-SO Valais-Wallis, eHealth Unit), Nicolas Berg (Redalpine Ventures) and jury president Thomas Wittig (Wittigonia AG & Head Coach of the largest Swiss start-up funding organisation) was impressed by the high concentration of quality among the start-ups taking part and the good organisation of the event.

How the eHealth-Showdown proceeded and how the winning start-up DermoSafe SA works, can be seen in the new Swiss start-up TV format “Swiss Startup Showdowns”. The new TV format will be broadcast by the interactive TV station and campaign partner JOIZ in the programme “Social Snap Startup”. The TV series can also be viewed on the campaign website.

The eHealth Showdown was supported by Business Valais, which regroups the organizations of the Economic Development of the State of Valais, Swiss Digital Health and the Inititative Promotion de la Santé Numérique which has been created by the Fondation The Ark).
