Sustainable solutions out of Switzerland impress juries worldwide

The types of awards that Swiss startups brought home from competitions worldwide span from one winning pitch competitions to being selected to join accelerator programs. Smino and NowCare stood out for their pitching skills, while Qaptis and KimboCare entered accelerator programs to advance their solutions.

Swiss proptech startup Smino (BBC Systems) has out-competed 42 contestants at the Construction Summit, one of the leading trade shows for digitization and innovation for the construction industry in Hamburg. The startup took home the first-place prize of the Construction Summit Start-up-Award, which recognizes startups that offer innovative products or services in the construction industry. Smino was founded in 2016 to provide the construction industry with a digital tool for mastering current and future challenges. It developed an app that centralizes information on a web-based platform and simultaneously networks all clients, authorities, planners, architects and contractors involved in a construction project. Since 2022, smino has also been present in Austria and Germany.

PitchnBar competition Claire Meuwly, Nowcare delivers the best pitch
More than 100 people attended the first edition of the forum for business creation in the canton of Vaud, organized by the IFJ Institute for Young Enterprises. One of the highlights of the event was Pitch'n'bar, a pitch competition, which rewarded Claire Meuwly for her NowCare project and won prizes worth more than CHF 7,000, including CHF 4,000 in cash from FIT, CHF 2,000 in coaching from Genilem, CHF 465 for a branding package from Professional Designers and CHF 680 for coaching from IFJ Startup Support. NowCare developed a powder-to-liquid soap that does not compromise mindful consumption and health.

Plug and Play Alberta (US) – Qaptis
Swiss startup Qaptis is the only Swiss startup among the 58 startups and the only Swiss startup in the recently announced Plug and Play Program Alberta, US, and one of the 18 participants in the category of Sustainability. The EPFL startup is building a CO2 capture solution to retrofit heavy vehicles and help the freight industry to reach its climate goals. Over the next three months, the chosen startups will have the opportunity to participate in networking events, workshops, mentor sessions, private deal flow sessions, and more to increase their chances of securing exclusive pilots, proof of concepts, new customers, and investments. They will be fully immersed in Plug and Play's global network of over 50,000 startups, 500+ industry-leading corporate partners, and hundreds of venture capital firms and investors. There is no equity requirement for startups to participate in the programs.

Swiss Re Foundation selects Kimbocare for a six-month program
KimboCare, a provider of a digital health platform that enables the traceability of medical services delivered to a healthcare provider, has won the 2023 SHINE Social Innovation Prize by the Swiss Re Foundation. SHINE is a collaborative initiative between Swiss Re Foundation and BOOKBRIDGE, aimed at supporting social innovators in converting their climate or health-access-focused ventures into scalable business models that generate maximum social impact. The program offers a 6-month immersive nurturing experience. The KimboCare team will be paired with Swiss Re experts and leadership coaches to enhance its value proposition on traceability of health outcomes and explore new sustainable ways to expand outreach and impact.
