ETH spin-off Pallon has acquired Germany-based startup Drainiac, which automates sewer system CCTV survey video analysis. This strategic move strengthens the former’s artificial intelligence sewage monitoring solutions.

Pallon (formerly Hades) uses artificial intelligence to detect defects in sewer inspection footage automatically and informs engineers when and how to repair them. The solution helps to reduce human errors while providing objective results.

Since its market launch in 2020, Pallon has scaled its product to over 100 customers. Among them are construction companies such as STRABAG, and engineering firms including ISAS GmbH, Germany’s largest engineering firm for sewer rehabilitation. Public sewer network operators like the city of Düsseldorf and private ones like Gelsenwasser AG also use the technology.

Moving forward, Pallon has strengthened its technological leadership and capabilities by acquiring Drainiac.ai, a Munich-based startup automating sewer assessments. Besides having similar ambitions, Drainiac has also built state-of-the-art technology that complements Pallon very well.

Felix Naser, ex MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL), BMW Group and Forbes 30 under 30, joins Pallon. In his LinkedIn remarks, he says, “If you can not beat them, join them – thus, I am super excited to become part of Pallon and help to scale further. Seeing what Pallon is capable of and starting to work with a world-class team, I am sure we are on the way to revolutionising the sewer industry.”
