Swiss startups win prizes in global awards

Anne Mellano, Bestmile; Maria Hahn, Nutrix, Nina Bratfalean, Virtual i Technologies; Mina Samir Kamel, Voliro

Two startup personalities, Anne Mellano, Co-Founder of Bestmile and Mina Samir Kamel, CEO of Voliro have received awards in recognition for their innovative solutions. Nutrix and Virtual i Technologies have also won prizes in global awards.

Bestmile, Smart Solution Innovator Award, European Tech Women Awards
Anne Mellano, Co-Founder of Bestmile, is among the 24 women that won the “European Tech Women Awards 2020” organised by the UK Department for International Trade (DIT). The award recognises accomplishments of female entrepreneurs who delivered revolutionary projects in the UK and Europe. Mellano received the “Smart Solution Innovator Award”. Bestmile developed a fleet-management platform for autonomous and human-driven vehicles of any brand.

TC Top Picks program
Biotech startup Nutrix has been selected for the TC Top Picks program, which showcases outstanding early-stage startups across a variety of industries. Nutrix is developing a high-tech nanosensor for glucose monitoring in saliva to help in disease prevention such as diabetes. As part of the cohort, the startup will have the chance to exhibit in Digital Startup Alley, receive media coverage and access to TechCrunch’s long-term marketing tool.

Virtual i Technologies, ACORD InsurTech Innovation Challenge
Based in Zurich with offices in Turkey and the United Arab Emirates, Virtual i Technologies built a patented platform for risk assessment and loss adjustment. The startup won the ACORD InsurTech Innovation Challenge. Among other prizes, Virtual i Technologies will receive a $10,000 cash award and will be featured in an ACORD–promoted webinar to present their innovation. The company, together with the runner-ups will have the opportunity to present their pitch in a VIP Showcase at ACORD Industry First.

Voliro, Mina Samir Kamel, Dimitris N. Chorafas Foundation award
Mina Samir Kamel, CEO of Voliro has received the Dimitris N. Chorafas prize, a scientific award for outstanding work in selected fields in the engineering sciences, medicine and the natural sciences. It rewards research characterised by its high potential for practical application and by the special significance attached to its aftermath. Kamel was recognised for his doctoral work, in which he focussed on the Voliro technology and optimised the system.
