Nanolive with MipTech Award

Nanolive, Vaud based startup that developed a new technology for conducting living cell tomography, was awarded with the Product-Innovation Award at MipTec 2017 for their new product the 3D Explorer-fluo. The product combines non-invasive 3D tomography with fluorescent markers to extend user's field of research.

The Basel Life MipTec exhibition brings together leading congress, researchers, and talented young scientists in the life sciences to showcase cutting-edge science and technology for advancing research and development in the industry.

As part of the event, the jury at MIPTEC presented the «Product-Innovation Award» to recognize outstanding achievements in the development of novel technologies. Three winners received the Award. Among them was startup Nanolive SA for the 3D Cell Explorer-Fluo, the world’s first holo-tomographic fluorescent microscope.

The 3D Cell Explorer-fluo answers to researcher’s scientific needs to combine the benefits from non-invasive cell tomography with a well-established and recognized method: multi-channel epifluorescence. A powerful platform allowing researchers to combine non-invasive 3D tomography with fluorescent markers to extend their field of research and understand complex intracellular dynamics and structures while reducing the disadvantages of fluorescence microscopy.

Nanolive was established as a Spinoff of EPFL. Since their establishment in 2013, the startup has been recognised for its innovative products: “3D Cell Explorer Discovery” which allows users to observe cells in their actual state: unmodified, alive and in 3D. The “3D Cell Explorer” is a microscope which makes it possible to examine living cells in 3D at a resolution beyond the optical diffraction limit without damaging them. The system is able to observe the inner workings of cells, including nuclei and organelles, without the need for any labelling or other invasive methods.

The Nanolive technology uses a technique called quantitative cell tomography to provide a measurement of the refractive index distribution within the cell and enable direct imaging of unstained living biological specimens. The system also contains self-adjusting optics to achieve optimal results for every measurement.
