Faceshift has hired Nico Scapel as their new Creative Director. His previous role was Rigging Supervisor at Framestore, where he lead the rigging team on 20+ visual effects (VFX) films including the Oscar-winning film Gravity. He’s also served in roles at Dreamworks.

During his career, Nico has pioneered techniques for procedural rigging, anatomy simulation, and performance capture on high end CG creatures and digital actors. In his new role, Nico will oversee creative development, including both internal and external production teams as well as management of asset creation from concept to developed product. He will be based in London, where he’ll also manage a new team of 3D technical artists.

“We recognized that as our design needs were becoming increasingly more sophisticated, we needed a truly inventive and original thinker to help lead our creative efforts,” faceshift CEO, Thibaut Weise. “Nico not only brings a wealth of technical expertise, he also possesses an amazing aesthetic vision. We’re thrilled to have him as part of the team.”
