Reaching for greater heights

Amazee’s exit to US-based IT company Mirantis made waves this week. Founded in 2017, the Swiss start-up has developed an application delivery platform that enhances developers’ experiences. Combining its technology with that of the parent company will result in a robust platform and enable more complex business applications and use cases.

Start-ups have different approaches to scaling their businesses and bringing new solutions to market. Human analytics start-up Teralytics has acquired the Streetlytics mobility data business from Bentley Systems in order to boost its capabilities and grow its presence in the North American market, and hospitality start-up GuestReady, which provides property management software, has opened a branch in Spain to serve the growing demand for rental homes.

This week, several start-ups announced the closing of their financing rounds, which will enable them to reach their next milestones. After 10 years of research at ETH Zurich, Mesh, which introduced the world’s first robot-assisted technology capable of creating reinforced concrete structures, is embarking on a new journey with two industry players: Swiss chemical giant Sika and the PERI Group, one of the world’s largest formwork and scaffolding manufacturers, are investing in the start-up in order to expand automated digital construction. Insuretech start-ups Jarowa and grape, and Piomic, HAIR & SKIN, Deep Breath Intelligence and WattAnyWhere also unlocked fresh capital to scale their offerings.

The Lichtsteiner Foundation wants to drive innovation by investing in medtech, life sciences, mental health, public health and well being. With 10 start-ups already supported, the foundation is continuing to grow its portfolio. Its CEO tells us more about the foundation’s next steps.

When it comes to support, start-ups that succeed in attracting the right players are likely to accelerate their growth much faster. New board members with wide experience and global organisations that integrate start-up technology or collaborate on innovations with start-ups all play a crucial role.

Speaking of partnerships, Kickstart Innovation has announced its newest cohort of 43 start-ups, with 13 Swiss companies among the participants. The 10-week programme offers access to corporates and institutions.
