Awards and recognition prizes come in different forms. In recent global competitions, two Swiss start-ups were recognised for their achievements, while three were selected to join incubation and acceleration programs to hasten product development.

Founded by two quantum physicists and a professional photographer, Dotphoton is using deep insights into the quantum processes occurring at the image sensor level to create a lossless compression technology achieving a compression ratio’s only seen with lossy methods. The start-up received the category ‘Best Technology’ in Visual 1st Awards. According to Marcel van der Heijden, Partner at Speedinvest and judge of the award, Apple is now enhancing support for RAW, the volume and size of images is continuing to grow fast and AI/ML image processing use cases are becoming more mission-critical in B2B. These are some of the reasons the awards committee believes there is a bright future ahead for Dotphoton.

Women in Insurance by NS Insurance
Renu Ann Joseph, CEO and founder of Luminant Analytics is among the seven selected women by NS Insurance that have had a measurable impact on the insurance market. With a PhD in economics, Renu first applied her skills at financial-ratings giant Moody’s, risk-modelling arm Moody’s Analytics, to help businesses understand the market impact of real-estate returns, the affordable care act and US monetary policy. After Moody, she helped improve the way reinsurance giant Swiss Re costed its commercial motor business by building predictive models that helped predict sector losses using data related to trends unfolding outside of it. At Luminastics Analytics, Renu has combined her acquired knowledge with the company’s software product to allow motor insurers to price their policies based on predictive models with traditional and external risk data.

Depoly “Beauty Tech for Good Challenge”
L’Oréal's international competition Beauty Tech for Good Challenge has awarded three start-ups developing solutions for responsible, sustainable and inclusive beauty.  Depoly is one of the three winners. The start-up uses a chemical method to recycle PET waste in indoor environments for which there is no recycling today, including plastic containing various colours or polyester fibres. The raw material produced can then be used to make new PET plastic. As part of the prize, Depoly will participate in L'Oréal's six-months incubation program at Station F, the world's largest campus for start-ups, and will be part of the 2021 edition of Viva Technology.

Miraex, EVOLEN’UP energy start-up incubator
Lausanne-based Miraex supports a clean energy transition towards a sustainable future. The start-up provides full sensing solutions to enable advanced predictive maintenance, asset monitoring and anomaly detection, specifically in extreme environments. The solution combines the company’s unique proprietary Photonics Sensors and Machine Learning. Miraex has been chosen to participate in EVOLEN’UP energy start-up incubator to benefit from its follow-up process. Only start-ups providing key solutions to “decrease the emission of carbon through logistical activities” and enabling a larger “role of hydrogen in the energy transition entered the program.

Bloom Biorenewables, AdMaCom
Cleantech start-up Bloom Biorenewables is transforming plants to provide new renewable materials and energy to offer a sustainable alternative to fossil-based materials in industries such as fragrances, materials, plastics, or textiles. The start-up is among the companies selected to join AdMaCom, the accelerator for start-ups developing new technologies in advanced materials. The program is run by run by INAM, the Innovation Network for Advanced Materials based in Berlin, Germany. During the online demo day of the program, the audience voted for Bloom to win the Crowd Favourite Award.
