Swiss Startups maintain track record of winning awards

The latest compilation of winners comes from award programs organised in Switzerland and abroad.

Swissbiolabs Award - Zoundream (Switzerland)
The Swissbiolabs award 2020, organised within the framework of Swiss Diagnostics Day at the University of Applied Sciences Northwest Switzerland, goes to Zoundream. The Basel based-startup developed “BabyT”, the world’s first portable device that uses deep learning and sound recognition to translate newborns’ cry sound into babies actual needs. The award prize includes a CHF 5'000 cheque and entry into the diagnostics start-up accelerator to benefit from free office space, coaching programs, mentoring and networking.

Propulsion Academy (Global)
With a 5.0/5 score (based on 13 reviews of Data Science Programs) Zurich based Propulsion Academy has achieved the second position in SwitchUp’s ranking of the world’s best data science bootcamps. Propulsion Academy provides students opportunities to learn about the technologies, tools, and techniques necessary to master all areas of data science. The course runs 12 weeks and enables students to apply the knowledge and skills they have acquired in completing a final data project in collaboration with real-world industry professionals.

Verity wins two AUVSI XCELLENCE awards (Global)
The AUVSI XCELLENCE Awards recognises innovators with a demonstrated commitment to advancing autonomy, leading and promoting safe adoption of unmanned systems, and developing programs that use these technologies to save lives and improve the human condition. Verity received two AUVSI XCELLENCE awards in the category humanitarian (public safety) and excellence in innovation (software) categories for its Failsafe technology. Using advanced control algorithms, Failsafe enables manufacturers to make any quadcopter redundant to propulsion system failures without altering their hardware design. The technology enables a vehicle to fly on only two propellers, and when a failure occurs, Failsafe allows for a safe and controlled emergency landing, resulting in lower risk flights over populated areas, limiting damage to expensive vehicles. It also ensures that data and payloads do not fall into the wrong hands.

Formnext Start-up Challenge – NematX (Frankfurt, Germany)
The international Formnext Start-up Challenge recognises young companies specialising in additive manufacturing for their business ideas and technical developments. This year’s awards awarded five startups including the ETH Zurich spinoff, NematX. The startup is developing its "Nematic 3D Printing" technology to facilitate the production of high-performance end-use parts, which clearly outperform current benchmarks in polymer 3D printing. NematX is hence hoping to facilitate the production of even more robust components for Aerospace and space, electronics, medical and pharma as well as industrial applications where parts are exposed to harsh environmental conditions.

Lyfegen joins Startup Creasphere accelerator (Global)
Basel based Lyfegen is one of the 11 startups selected to join the innovation program Startup Creasphere, established by Plug and Play Tech Center and Roche. Creasphere provides digital health startups with a dedicated pilot-driven program to accelerate their success. Lyfegen provides manufacturers, healthcare payers and healthcare providers with the tools needed to execute value-based and data-driven agreements to help patients to access cutting edge, high-cost therapies. 

FAIRTIQ, UITP startup Showcase (Global)
The UITP (Union Internationale des Transports Publics) award recognises projects that enhance the quality of life in urban areas worldwide by supporting, promoting and advancing public transport. FAIRTIQ as a winner is one of the 11 selected winners of the UITP Startup Showcase. The startup developed a ticketing system that drastically shortens and simplifies the ticket purchase process for customers. With just one swipe on their mobile phones, customers can purchase the optimal ticket at the best price possible.
