Elios Flyability

Flyability, an expert company in in-door drones, has announced a new certification and training program to allow Elios owners to assess and recognise the skills of their pilots. The program provides pilots with knowledge allowing them to perform the most difficult indoor inspection missions. The first sessions, Flyability has partnered with the Commercial UAV Expo to showcase the program during the Las Vegas exhibition at the end of October.

Unlike any other Drone, Flyabilitiy’s Elios, which is used in confined spaces, has its own set of technics and factors of influence – such as light, surface reflection, dust, protruding obstacles, airflow turbulence, or size of openings – that pilots need to apprehend, if they are to succeed in any mission. Besides preparation, pilots should be in position to assess the level of difficulty of any mission and have the right skills to excecute it.

Part of the marketing strategy for Elios
For that reason, Flyability has developed a complete certification and training program that brings drone pilots from discovering the particularities of piloting a drone indoor to being experts able to perform the most difficult indoor inspection missions. Most importantly, the certification criteria test the pilots on their ability to assess the difficulty of a mission and put their own piloting skills into perspective. In addition the training will help to accelerate the adoption of Elios. Marc Gandillon, Marketing Manager at Flyability, says: "This clearly a marketing strategy for Elios. This can be a way to build another sales channel that will complement our current channels."

Based on criteria defined by professional pilots with in-depth knowledge of Elios’ deployment in the field, each certification level is directly built from practical experience and is applicable to real scenarios. The four certification levels gradually require more expertise and involvement from the pilot, and thanks to Flyability’s mission assessment matrix, a pilot can easily assess if one is sufficiently trained to perform a given mission.

“Making sure that every Elios pilot is properly trained and is conscious of his level of expertise, is a mission that we take very seriously,” says Charles Rey, Training Manager at Flyability. “Being able to assess the difficulty of an inspection and staff it with the right pilot is essential to maximize the savings that can be realized thanks to a well-prepared mission.” To promote that effort, the initial training that leads to the first certification level is included in the purchase of every Elios drone”.

First training in Las Vegas
Flyability will conduct the training and certification program worldwide to enable new training partners to facilitate access to a proper training. For the kick off, Flyability has partnered with the Commercial UAV Expo – North America’s leading trade show and conference hosting over 1700 commercial clients from the drone industry – to give its customers, including potential customers, the opportunity to discover the possibilities offered by Elios and get proficient before making a purchase decision. The training will kick off at the Las Vegas expo from the 23rd to the 27th of October.

“We’re thrilled that Flyability has chosen to hold training sessions in conjunction with Commercial UAV Expo. The Flyability Elios is an exciting technology for professionals charged with inspecting interiors. Because Commercial UAV Expo attracts such professionals, including from power generation, oil and gas, and construction, holding the training during our event makes perfect sense,” says Lisa Murray, Director of Commercial UAV Expo.

The results of the event in Las Vegas will be used to design the world-wide training programme. Marc Gandillon, Marketing Manager at Flyability, explains: "We will, for sure, continue with trainings abroad. The priority of geographies is directly related to the rate of adotpion of a given region but the form that these trainings will take is not finalized. The result or success of the Las Vegas event will be instrumental in the decision making process."
