Zug-based travel startup Viatu is planning to launch its sustainable travel platform early 2021 in Namibia. A new six-digit-investment obtained through the pre-seed round will bolster the company's plans.

Viatu was incorporated in August 2020 by a team of experts comprising of former executives in travel, ex-Googlers and Booking.com engineers. Their ambition is to disrupt the USD 200 billion global wildlife and adventure industry. With Viatu, they are developing a travel platform that enables travellers to design and book sustainable and regenerative trips to wild destinations. The company provides users with efficient and free carbon offsetting, instant booking and transparent business operations that do not rely on agents. Accommodation and transportation are vetted for their environmental credentials.

“Despite travel and tourism being one of the hardest-hit sectors during the global Coronavirus crisis, we see the current situation as an opportunity to hit the reset button on over-tourism. In a post-COVID world, reinventing travel is the only option! Based on principles of regenerative travel, we envision a new way for tourism to provide a lasting positive impact for local environments and people”, says Alfredo Seidemann, Founder and CEO of Viatu.

Thanks to the completion of its pre-seed round, Viatu has obtained the required resources to sustain its next plan. The six-figure investment will allow the company to build a functional and reliable MVP which includes services such as expert tailored trips, ability to customise trips and instant booking. The official launch is scheduled for Q1 2021 in Namibia.
