Swiss startups have once more brought home a diverse range of prizes after winning competitions from around the world. The newest prizes come from Korea, Germany and Texas. Three startups have been selected to participate in a €75 million European digital health project.

Heat Force – COMEUP, Korea
Selected from 1075 applicants, Heart Force from Zurich is among the 120 winners of the COMEUP Stars organised in Korea. The prize includes support for the creation of corporate promotional videos and online booths free of charge, and opportunities to promote themselves to global investors, online investment, expert counselling sessions, and senior-junior networking.
The startup developed a unique self-monitoring technology to assess cardiac performance, enabling the early detection of heart disease. Its technology is based on seismocardiography and follows a medically-recognised approach to heart-health assessment: the analysis of low-frequency vibrations caused by the contraction and relaxation of the heart as it beats. Under this analysis, a set of indicators were established, defined as Cardiac Performance Metrics. CPM indicates whether a heart is healthy or experiencing problems.

Flowbone – EIT Headstart Grant, Germany
The EIT Health Headstart Program supports early-stage startups and SMEs in developing their new products and services. Flowbone from Switzerland is among the winners of the recent edition and has received a € 50,000. The startup is developing a gel capable of locally strengthening the bones among patients with osteoporosis. The funds will enable the company to support the next steps towards the market and shorten time-to-market, and verify the need of the product or service, and the benefit of the product or service for users, customers, health care providers and also for EIT Health Partners.

Fotokite – Safe Tech Pitch, Texas
Fotokite is the top prize winner of the Safe Tech competition 2020. The startup received the top prize endowed with $10,000. The ETH spinoff with a team of 50 employees designs, manufactures and supports Public Safety teams with tethered situational awareness solutions to help them stay safe, save lives, and preserve property at the push of a button. Fotokite systems are mounted on top of Public Safety vehicles and operate without any need for a pilot, streaming dual thermal + low-light video to help size-up emergency response scenes within seconds of arriving and with 24+ hour continuous flightime. The company launched the ‘Fotokite Sigma’ in early 2019 and continues to ramp up deliveries of our industry-defining solutions across North America and Europe.

Moore4Medical project
Three Swiss startups selected for the Moore4Medical project
Inpher Sàrl, InSphero AG and 3dbAccess AG are part of the Swiss consortium of partners that will collaborate on the Moore4Medica project, launched by Philips Research, in conjunction with Philips Innovation Services. The project has a budget of €75 million thanks to funding provided by Electronic Components and Systems for European Leadership (ECSEL) Joint Undertaking in collaboration with the European Union's H2020 Framework, National Authorities including Innosuisse, and partner contributions. The goal is to develop electronic systems in six areas of medicine. Inpher provides secret computing and privacy-preserving analytics, Insphero is a pioneer in 3D cell-based assay technology and 3dbAccess is developing a centimetre-precise, low-power and secure UWB location technology.

ENTRANCE Program
The EU-funded ENTRANCE project aims to develop and validate a comprehensive user-based toolbox for the risk-based non-intrusive inspection of cross-border freight movements, particularly at the EU Customs Union borders. Arktis Radiation Detectors is part of the project with a budget of €75 million and will deliver systems & algorithms to help build a Trans-European network of Radiation Portal Monitors and develop sensors for next generation Non-Intrusive Inspection.
