Airtainer
Founded in 2019, Swiss Airtainer has developed a temperature-controlled container for the transport of pharmaceutical products by air. The Tech Seed loan of CHF100k granted by the Foundation for Technological Innovation (FIT) will cover the R&D costs of the solution.

Pharmaceutical products are highly temperature sensitive and must comply with very strict safety standards during delivery, transport and storage. In order to ensure that product integrity is not compromised, it is essential to maintain a stable temperature, otherwise considerable damage can occur, resulting in heavy financial losses for pharmaceutical companies. On the other hand, for the airline industry, which is already highly polluting due to its high CO2 emissions, the weight of the cargo is directly linked to the environmental impact. The heavier the containers, the greater the energy required and the greater the CO2 emissions.

Swiss Airtainer wants to solve all these problems with its fully connected container that allows remote temperature control during air transport. The container has been completely reinvented by the startup and is made up of new elements, from the composite material used for the on-board sensor to the architecture of the container itself. In addition, the container is equipped with solar panels to make it energy self-sufficient. Thanks to its innovative components, Swiss Airtainer reduces the empty weight of the containers by about 250 kg, which on the one hand reduces the CO2 footprint by almost 40% and on the other hand saves transport costs for companies.

Swiss Airtainer and its containers are the result of a project in collaboration with the HEIG-VD, the CSEM and the EMPA, and target European pharmaceutical companies, mainly in Germany and Switzerland. The 7-person team has obtained the support of the Federal Office of Civil Aviation and the EIC Accelerator, and is planning to raise Series A funding.

Swiss Airtainer hopes to have its product certified by the European Aviation Safety Agency, and expects to start the pilot project. Thanks to the FIT Tech Seed loan, the start-up will be able to cover the R&D costs of its solution.
