NOMOQ team with customer

Together with an experienced team of founders, serial entrepreneur, Peter Stein has launched his fifth startup, NOMOQ, to provide small and medium-sized enterprises with the possibility to print designs on their beverage cans with no minimum order quantity. The technology is for the first time available in Europe. After the launch in Germany, the startup plans to open facilities in other markets.

Printing unique designs on beverage cans sets companies apart in their brand image and marketing efforts. Small and medium-sized enterprises in the beverages market have been missing out on the opportunity due to the minimum order quantity required by existing vendors, which small craft breweries are unable to meet. Purchasing finished printed cans is costly while alternatives such as the plastic peel-off labels are hazardous to the environment.

With the advancement and maturity of the can printing technology, companies can now provide digitally printed cans to small craft brewers of different drinks including craft beer, Lemonade, Kombucha, Hard Seltzer, Health and wellness drinks, and Energy drinks. Swiss startup NOMOQ is one of the first companies to deploy the technology worldwide and the first in central Europe.

The idea to bring the digital can printing solution into Europe emerged after Peter Stein listened to the problems of small-scale brewers. Based on research and his entrepreneurial experience as founder and co-founder of five startups including Ava Women (acquired by Femtech Health), he established NOMOQ together with Gabriela Andrei, Albrecht Haake and Patrick Schweizer in January 2022 to address this market need.

Eight months following the incorporation, the startup procured its first machine for the newly opened production site in Kirchheimbolanden/Germany and completed the first customer order from Gottfried for approximately 5000 cans. The startup continues to accept orders from customers while ramping up the production site. “Since introducing the technology in Europe we have seen a surge in demand from customers”, says Stein.

Ambitious plans
Moving forward, NOMOQ has secured equity financing from international investors from the UK, Germany and Switzerland as well as debt capital which provides the startup with additional funds to scale and accelerate growth. With the vision of becoming the leading supplier of decorated cans in small batch sizes for the European beverage market, NOMOQ plans to set up more facilities in other European countries.

In addition to growing its revenues, the startup plans to raise a larger financing round and grow the team. Currently, NOMOQ has eight employees and wants to double the team size within the next months with several positions open for applications.
