Meet the 38 winners of the IMD Startup Competition

IMD is one of the the world leaders in executive education. Every year Swiss start-ups get the opportunity to work with IMD fulltime MBAs and EMBA cohorts. This time 38 start-ups were selected.

The IMD Startup Competition is looking for early-stage companies that have a solid chance of market success. During the program they will enter into both strategic and business model discussions a small group of management "students". This year 20 ventures will be working with the IMD full-time MBAs, and 18 startups will collaborate with one of the three EMBA cohorts. 

Working with fulltime MBAs

AMF Medical is in the advanced development of "Sigi" for people with diabetes. The device is the first and only patch- pump for closed loop and designed to work with standard pre-filled insulin cartridges.  

Bionomous is developing a robotic device and AI solutions that allow researchers to automatically count, screen, sort, and dispense small biological entities, such as the eggs of zebrafish. Zebrafish eggs are a common model for studies in genetics, development and behavioural biology and toxicology.

Bottmedical developed the NaturAligner - a patented transparent teeth aligner made from biocompatible materials that allow for a high level of comfort and provide a gentle fit.

Decentriq enables its customers to benefit from secure data ecosystems by combining, analyzing and sharing sensitive data with anyone, at scale and without restrictions   

DePoly closes the loop of PET recycling, saving 2,000 gallons of gasoline/ton of plastic and reducing the energy to make new PET bottles by 66%. 

Foxight develops a game changing 3-D LIDAR scanning and optical mapping technology enabling machine Vision and autonomous motion.  

GlobalM specializes in advanced streaming technologies. GlobalM aims to revolutionize news and sports by enabling anyone with a smartphone to be a reporter, and to earn money from their content, embracing mobile technology and IP content distribution.

GradeSens enhances the Predictive Maintenance of critical and industrial assets by processing smart data collected with high-end proprietary wireless sensors systems,

Isochronic develops a new type of industrial robot for pick & place applications, capable of transporting multiple parts simultaneously.

Koa Switzerland empowers smallholders in West Africa to create significant added value via the cocoa fruit’s untapped social, environmental and culinary potential.   

Muntagnard — rethinking textiles to build an essentially different sustainable brand, without compromising on comfort, quality, functionality or style. The first product is based on wood fibres.

Nectariss brings novel natural flavours to the food market through its patented technology. The start-up focuses on developing natural flavors of truffle fungi. 

NEMIS Technologies is a Swiss diagnostics company that has developed a rapid, easy-to-use point-of-care pathogenic bacteria detection solution in the fields of food safety, clinical diagnostics, water safety, and animal health.

Plastogaz develops technologies for the circular economy, with a focus on plastic waste transformation into value-added products.

RetinAI accelerates clinics, research and pharmaceutical workflows to improve eye care with its Discovery platform. Discovery is a certified data management platform for efficiently processing data at scale across imaging platforms and devices.

Rivalyze supports and distributes the first commercial far-UVC disinfection light fixture to reduce pathogens in aerosols and on surfaces even in the presence of human beings.

Skyeton is an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) production developer and manufacturer. Its goal is to revolutionize the aerospace industry by creating long-endurance unmanned aerial systems for various data collection.

SmartBreed manufactures and sells automated grasshopper breeding boxes in which Zoos, food manufacturers and farmers can breed grasshoppers economically, efficiently and hygienically and convert on-site agricultural waste via insects into high-quality insect protein.

Supernova has created the first mechanical watch that integrates daily life features based on augmented intelligence, all powered by human energy.  

Urbio develops SaaS (Software as a Service) that helps the key actors of the energy transition plan and design the most efficient energy infrastructure and technologies to heat, cool and electrify buildings.

AICA provides an Artificial Intelligence software that revolutionizes the interaction with robots. The solution increases the flexibility and versaatitlity of classical robots and allows collaborative robots to adapt, interact and collaborate.

anavo offers cutting edge nanotechnology to boost wound closure and keep tissue alive.

Artiria Medical aims to improve stroke treatment using its medical device that enables stroke surgeons to navigate brain arteries with unprecedented speed and efficacy.

CompPair Technologies developed a new composite material able to repair itself and be better recycled, bringing circular economy to the composites industry.

deepCDR Biologics is a spin-off from ETH Zürich that uses Deep Learning to significantly accelerate the discovery of novel antibody drug therapies.

Genknowme is an innovative life sciences company offering a new reading of DNA: an epigenetic profile that measures the reversible impacts of lifestyle on genes, in order to help everyone develop and maintain a healthier lifestyle.

Hexisense is developing a semiconductor chip to detect gas leaks in vacuum environments. The sensors allow for measuring individual gases in all vacuum systems in real-time and with unrivalled precision.

Inspired by the fastest software technologies in the world: high-frequency trading, Klepsydra has developed, a lightweight, platform-agnostic software development toolset for embedded systems. Application fields include drones, robotics, space and automotive. 

The Komed Health platform provides physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals with a secure and straightforward real-time communication tool via mobile (iOS and Android) or a desktop.

Lymphatica Medtech is a medical device producer, developing a breakthrough implant for the treatment of lymphatic diseases, with an initial focus on post breast cancer lymphedema.

POP UP SHOPS developed an online platform that enables tenants to easily and quickly find and book the right retail or promotional space. 

RoomPriceGenie automates the pricing of smaller hotels, allowing them to compete with larger chains and increase revenue by over 15%.    

Shematic’s mission is to provide fully customised electric powertrains to meet the needs of manufacturers of passenger cars, leisure, passenger and commercial vehicles.

The Sleepiz One is a small box that is simply placed on the bedside table to measure the patient’s physiological parameters. While currently focusing on respiratory illnesses, Sleepiz aims to improve people’s lives by contributing to the future of healthcare.  

SoHHytec is a provider of solar hydrogen production solutions and sells innovative plug & play systems for onsite production of solar fuel and power which is cleaner, greener and cost-effective.

Vivent helps to make agriculture more sustainable by tapping into plants' own signalling networks to provide early warning of a wide range of crop stressors.

YASAI offers vertical farming as a service. Advantages include increasing productivity by a factor of 10 to 15 per square meter thanks to a layered construction method, a 90% reduction in water consumption and almost no use of pesticides.
