Award juries worldwide select Swiss startups

The International reputation of Switzerland as an innovative country remains intact thanks to the growing number of startups that are bringing home award prizes. Juries of the recently concluded global competitions bestowed prizes onto 13 startups that are developing solutions focusing on fields such as medtech, cleantech, artificial intelligence fintech, digital health and eCommerce.

Held within the framework of the European Robotics Forum, the EU Entrepreneurship Award recognises the most promising robotic start-up as judged by a jury of robotic entrepreneurship pioneers and experts. The 2021 prize went to MyLeg, a device that restores sensory information about the prosthesis touch and movement through non-invasive electrical stimulation of the remaining skin of the patient. MyLeg does not need surgery to be used and can be added to the currently available commercial prostheses. 

Green Product Award – OceanSafe 
Following the German Sustainability Award 2021, OceanSafe has won the Green Product Award, which honours new concepts, sustainable materials, products and services from companies, start-ups and students. Founded in 2019, OceanSafe relies entirely on the principle of the biological cycle according to Cradle to Cradle – that is, the biological cycle of OceanSafe textiles never ends. This is because after use they are processed into biogas or humus via a smart take-back system in industrial composting plants. OceanSafe's product portfolio includes ready-made products made of cotton (bed linen and terry towelling) as well as yard goods and finished products (curtains and decorative fabrics) made of synthetic fibres, accessories (curtain gliders, buttons, hooks, ribbons, fasteners and labels). In addition, there are natural fibres (cotton, linen, hemp) and synthetic fibres. 

Reactor accelerator – Medical Templates and Ancora.ai
Health Venture Lab together with GE Healthcare and EIT Health announced the 19 digital health startups to join the 3-months Reactor accelerator programme. Among them are two startups from Switzerland: Medical Templates and Ancora.ai. Medical Templates revolutionizes CT guided needle interventions using a cube system and combining it with intelligent software for accurate, fast and easy to use navigation. Ancora.ai is a free, AI-powered application that allows for an intuitive trial search for patients and physicians, and helps trial sponsors quickly and easily enrol participants. 

Forbes 30 Artificial Intelligence startups DACH
The latest list of the Forbes 30 most promising startups in Germany, Austria and Switzerland includes five Swiss startups: Advertima uses Machine Learning, Big Data and Computer Vision to interpret human behaviour in the physical world;Guuru’s technology recognizes the content of online customer inquiries and either answers them directly itself or forwards them to suitable knowledge sources or experienced product users;Scailyte is a spin-off from ETH Zurich that uses deep learning methods to search through human cells in order to find clues to complex diseases at an early stage. PXL Vision is a spin-off of ETH Zurich which developed a fully automated digital identity check based on artificial intelligence; Acodis (formerly Turicode) developed technology to automatically transform documents into structured data in a matter of seconds – more than 40 customers already rely on the service, including Novartis, Allianz and Swisscom. 

PwC Wealthtech Accelerator Programme UK – 3RD Eyes Analytics and Conser
The Wealth Scale Programme supports fintech startups through a 10-week acceleration programme designed to connect the emerging companies to industry leaders to boost innovation by changes to consumer behaviour and the new operational challenges and opportunities resulting from the pandemic. Among the recently selected nine startups are two from Switzerland. 3RD Eyes Analytics empowers financial institutions to deliver goal-based investing with realistic and scenario-based asset-liability management methods, integrating sustainable investing beyond regulatory requirements. Conser is a pioneering third-party ESG verifier, which has developed ESG Consensus (R), a unique and innovative digital tool to measure and improve the impact and sustainability of investments portfolios. 

Gartner 'Cool Vendors' – Dacadoo 
Dacadoo is one of four Cool Vendors in Insurance 2021 by Gartner. The Gartner ‘Cool Vendor in Insurance’ research report is designed to highlight interesting, new and innovative vendors, products and services. Dacadoo licenses its Digital Health Engagement Platform, including its Health Score, to Life & Health insurance operators (B2B), supplying Insurtech and health-tech solutions to over 35 of the top 100 Life & Health insurance operators globally. Available in over 16 languages, dacadoo’s technology is provided as a fully branded, white-label solution or it can be integrated into customers’ products through its API. 

Top Swiss Retail Startup – Experify
The Startup Showcase brings together retail researchers, managers and investors from the DACH region network with promising founders. An award-prize was bestowed onto Experify as the winner of the Top Swiss Retail startup competition. Experify designed a platform that brings potential buyers together with product owners for an honest opinion on the product and a quick try before you buy.
