The markets for dermal fillers grew and got more sophisticated over the last years. The experienced founders of Kylane Laboratoires have identified the opportunity to develop advanced products with a high safety profile and better efficacy. First products are clinically validated. The Geneva-based start-up has now obtained the Innosuisse Certificate, a key milestone for its future development.

Hyaluronic Acid solutions are by far the most common filler injections and the markets are in strong development worldwide. However innovation in the field is extremely limited, mainly driven by marketing and not clinically-validated superior solutions. In this environment, the Kylane founders have identified the opportunity to develop advanced products with a high safety profile and better efficacy in terms of volumizing effect and natural outcomes.

Kylane has already developed Oxifree and Rheopure, two clinically validated technologies at the core of the new start-up products. They enable to obtain injectable products with a high level of safety and better ability to create volume, while offering a proper integration into the skin tissues.

Kylane is currently addressing the treatment of the face (wrinkles and folds correction, lips enhancement, facial volume restoration, scar treatment, lipoatrophy correction, …) with a full range of advanced HA fillers. The body contouring is also targeted, with products able to redefine and enhance the body’s contours in a harmonious and natural way. The products of Kylane will be sold to Medical Doctors, especially Dermatologists, Plastic Surgeons and Aesthetic Doctors, who will treat/inject their patients with these advanced HA products.

The body contouring challenge
Body contouring products requires higher quantity to be injected and specific biophysical properties to ensure safety and targeted performance, representing a significant step towards existing HA solutions which are focused on the facial treatments. HA companies able to develop body contouring products will have a significant edge in the future, explains Kylane board member Christophe Guichard.

A fruitful trust relationship
Obtaining the Innosuisse Certificate was initially set-up as a milestone for the company to infuse the right DNA for development and growth, and to provide additional visibility in Switzerland and more specifically with reputable Swiss academic groups. As Christophe Guichard further explains, coaching provided significant benefit to the Kylane team through a trust relationship with the Innosuisse coach to discuss strategic issues and priorities. In addition, the coach gave the start-up access to his personal network introducing the team to C-level executives of large beauty companies. With the support of Innosuisse and IP agents, Intellectual Property has been developed to crystallize the value of innovative technologies and products. Financing strategies and opportunities have been elaborated to ensure financial sustainability of the company and process implemented to fluidify the administration of the company.

Comprised of less than ten people, the Kylane team is still small as the model of the start-up is to focus on core skills that encompass the current team and to collaborate with leading clinicians, marketing agencies and suppliers to leverage on their skills and most recent approaches. Now that the company has developed and clinically validated first products the team will grow quickly.
