Yesterday the second award ceremony of >>venture>> 2012 took place. Swissto12 has won the main prize of CHF60.000. Sophia Genetics ranked second, Bcomp third.
At the award ceremony of >>venture>> 2012 the ten finalists get the chance to present to the audience. It was impressive to see ten promising young companies with such different backgrounds, technologies and products.
The best reason to celebrate yesterday evening had the team of Swissto12: Alessandro Macor and Emile de Rijk. They won the main prize of CHF 60.000. Swissto12 is a spin-off from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, EPFL. The company aims to become a leading global supplier of components and systems for terahertz (THz) signal transmission. THz is the last underemployed part of the electromagnetic spectrum and is a bridge between electronics and optics. The market for THz applications covers analysis techniques for medical, pharmaceutical and chemical industries, as well as surface and security inspection techniques for industrial processes or locations such as airports, medical imaging techniques, and systems for satellites and telecom.
Sophia Genetics, also a spin-off from EPFL, ranks second. The company offers individuals, healthcare providers, researchers and the pharmaceutical industry secure storage and analysis of patient genome sequence information. Genetic information plays a pivotal role in the diagnosis and treatment of many diseases, and allows a personalized healthcare management.
The ranks of the other winners: Bcomp (3), Osmoblue (4), Rayneer (5) followed by Abionic, AppAware, Agilentia, Phocone and Uepaa (all 6).
The ten companies can look to the future with confidence. At the event yesterday evening Thomas Knecht, founder of >>venture>>, presented a study about the impact of the competition. The survival rate of the previous winners is 91%. On average they created 22 jobs.
