Giovanelli, a leading Swiss importer of fruits and vegetables, invests in Agtech start-up AgroSustain. In addition, the company received an EIC accelerator grant of EUR 2.4 million.

AgroSustain develops organic crop protection solution. The company will use the proceeds from the investment and the grant to prepare the European launch of its biological coating that extends the freshness of fruits and vegetables and to accelerate the development of novel and highly effective biological antifungal solutions.

AgroSustain’s first product AgroStore has unprecedented fungitoxic efficacy against a broad spectrum of moulds. The solution provides similar crop protection in the pre-harvest phase to the currently available synthetic fungicides and extends the shelf life of fresh produce post-harvest, by a minimum of 7 days and up to 4 months.

Giovannelli Fruchtimport AG is based in the Canton of Thurgau. The company was founded in 1930 and focuses on the import of fruits, vegetables, berries and mushrooms. “Based on the very promising results from our joint product trials, we are convinced that we have found the right partner in AgroSustain. Its bio-coating will further increase product quality and make a significant contribution to a reduction of food waste. “– says Raphael Weiss, CEO of Giovanelli Fruchtimport AG.

“We are happy to welcome Giovanelli Fruchtimport AG as our strategic partner. By leveraging their experience in the industry, we will be able to integrate AgroSustain’s biological coating into the food supply chain and to provide optimum crop protection” – says Olga Dubey, CEO of AgroSustain. The investment is part of AgroSustain’s ongoing Series A financing round.
