Forbes' AI30 DACH presents nine Swiss startups

In recent years, Artificial Intelligence has been predominant in several business areas. Forbes has identified 30 startups from Germany, Austria and Switzerland, which leverage the technology to bring breakthrough solutions. Nine startups stem from Switzerland. 

Forbes has nominated 30 promising startups from the DACH region whose solutions leverage artificial intelligence (AI) in the areas of text and speech analysis, healthcare and medicine, transport, software development, travel, space, logistics, agriculture and finance. The AI30 comprises four startups from Vienna, 17 from Germany and 9 from Switzerland.

The nominated Swiss startups are:

Retina medical, Bern - Carlos Ciller
The start-up developed software that is based on AI image recognition to improve eye medicine by detecting eye diseases at an early stage. Having already been on the list last year, the company also qualified for "AI30 DACH 2020" with the latest financing round in June.

L2F, Lausanne - Aldo Podestà (CEO), Francesco Palma
Established in 2017 as a spin-off from EPFL/ETH Lausanne, L2F developed the Giotto, open-source software for the programming language Python. The technology combines artificial intelligence with topology and several advanced mathematics to enable prediction and optimization models which study the spatial properties of geometrical objects.

Picterra, Ecublens - Frank de Morsier and Pierrick Poulenas Founded in 2016 specializes in AI-based analysis of satellite, flight and drone images. Its platform enabling users to train machine-learning detectors to automate the detection of objects within earth observation images, without a single line of code.

Deep Code, Zurich - Martin Vechev, Veselin Raychev and Boris Paskalev
The ETH Zurich spinoff founded in 2016 developed a platform for automated AI code reviews which alerts developers about critical vulnerabilities thereby helping them to prevent bugs from going into production.  The startup is appearing on the Forbes list for the second time.

Gamaya, Morges -Yosef Akhtman, Igor Ivanov
The startup developed a crop-specific technology relies on hyperspectral imagery analytics, artificial intelligence and machine learning to capture and interpret imagery to give farmers information about the state of their fields and crops. The technology helps to identify pests or weeds.

Daedalean, Zurich - Anna Chernova and Luuk van Dijk
Founded in 201 6, the start-up developing autonomous dynamic flight control systems and software for safety-critical avionics, integrating modern robotics, computer vision and deep AI for safety-critical avionics. In ist latest financing round, the startup raised CHF 12 million to launch air taxi services.

Teralytics, Zurich - Luciano Franceschina, Georg Polzer and  Donald  Kossmann
Aiming to promote sustainable mobility, the startup is building a platform to provide advanced mobility analytics powered by telecom network data. Founded in 2012, the company has closed a Series D round last year, raising  17.5 million US dollars.

Nnaisense, Lugano - Jürgen Schmidhuber
Based on more than 25-year research, the startup uses AI to build large-scale neural network solutions for superhuman perception and intelligent automation. Among the company's investors include Samsung Ventures, which led a Series B round.

Sophia Genetics, Lausanne - Jurgi Camblong
The healthtech company developed AI SOPHiA, a platform based on AI models that enables health professionals to analyse and bank patient DNA sequences generated by Next Generation Sequencing (NGS). More than 1,000 hospitals in 82 countries worldwide use the platform. The company employe more than  40 employees and has closed five financing rounds with over 140 million US dollars including the recently obtained  77 million US dollars in a Series E round.
