Lunaphore Technologies SA, a Lausanne based company developing automation systems for next-generation tissue diagnostics, has entered into a collaboration with PerkinElmer, a $2.3 billion global company. Together they will develop automated and ultra-fast multiplexed staining and analysis of tumor samples.

Lunaphore has developed a cutting-edge technology based on microfluidics to perform tissue-staining assays much faster than current methods. Combining Lunaphore’s automated staining device with PerkinElmer’s leading multiplex reagents and imaging system: the Opal multiplexed immunostaining reagent kits, allows for simultaneous staining of biomarkers up to seven colours along with multispectral imaging platforms.

Bringing the technologies together will open the possibilities of performing rapid and high-quality automated multiplexed assays for testing biomarkers in many applications. “This has the potential to help facilitate the widespread use of multiplexed assays, by accelerating the discovery of biomarkers and by standardizing such techniques,” says Cliff Hoyt, Director of Application Services and Oncology Fellow, Discovery & Analytical Solutions, PerkinElmer.

“This collaboration is an excellent opportunity to unite two complementary systems and it aligns perfectly with Lunaphore’s mission to enable the omics-like approaches in tissue diagnostics,” indicated Diego G. Dupouy, CTO of Lunaphore.
