EVOLVE conference: insights on social entrepreneurship

The University of St. Gallen has launched an event focusing on social entrepreneurship: Oikos Evolve social entrepreneurship conference. The two-day event brings together social entrepreneurs, start-ups, corporates to network, discuss and learn from experts during the keynotes and panel discussion.

Oikos is an international student organization for sustainability in economics and management, founded at the University of St. Gallen (HSG). As a leading reference point for the promotion of sustainability change agents, Oikos’ members from various academic backgrounds inspire students on a global scale to get in contact with the concept of sustainability, and advocates for the integration of sustainable development into teaching and research at their faculties.

Oikos runs several projects including Social Entrepreneurship at HSG. For the first time organisation is hosting a social entrepreneurship event «Evolve-Social Entrepreneurship» on 20th & 21st of April 2018. The event brings together students of the HSG and other students from Switzerland, Germany and Austria as well as young start-ups and established corporations. The event seeks to create a platform where participants can interact and develop their own network as well as raise awareness for social entrepreneurship and its essential role for the future of business.

The event gives start-ups the chance to build a broad network, connect with interested participants and find promising talents for their business. Through the organised 9 workshops, attendees have the opportunity to develop and deepen their knowledge for establishing a social business. They will work in groups of 20-30 to tackle problems, solve tasks and take part in expertly led debates and discussions with fellow interested social entrepreneurs.

Attendees are also invited to join the 10 keynotes and panels on a varying range of themes such as using Blockchain technology for a social purpose, Impact Investment, Micro-Sharing, the Psychology of doing business socially among others. Some of the confirmed keynote speakers include Marco Righetti & Paolo Del Ponte, cofounders of Project Aqua; Valentina S. Velandia, Capacity Zurich; Eryk Salvaggio, swissnex San Francisco and Stephanie Fox, One Solution. Other speakers will soon be announced.

The event is also offering individuals with social business ideas the chance to show case their projects at a fair and forge long-term connections.
