Merck sstartups 2018

Swiss startup ChemAlive, developing an automated quantum chemistry cloud solution for the chemical industry, has been selected to join Merck Accelerator in Damstadt, Germany. As part of the support package, the startup will receive €50,000 to facilitate businesses growth.

For its sixth edition, Merck Accelerator received 400 applications from startups all around the world. Only ten startups from the fields of  healthcare, life science, performance materials, and other related business fields were selected to join the spring program.

As reported in their blog: “Digitalization is progressing into nearly every sector of the health and science scene: from unmanned aircraft systems, and easily operated state-of-the-art computational chemistry to machine learning techniques, and technological aids for fruit and vegetable growers. The selected startups are very diverse and active in a wide range of fields. We are proud to announce that a femtech startup will be joining the Merck Accelerator for the first time. The femtech industry is a rapidly growing field in the healthcare sector and enjoys growing popularity among investors and businesses.”

Among the ten startups is the Lausanne based startup ChemAlive. The startup offers a user-friendly system that allows non-experts to perform state-of-the-art quantum chemistry calculations. Its software is driven by machine learning that allows stakeholders in the chemical industry to model chemistry, improve yield, and generate new chemical leads. The ChemAlive platform thus provides cheaper and faster access to computed chemical data non-expertise through a SaaS model executable by any chemist online. By democratizing quantum chemistry, ChemAlive provides ready access to critical data, helping the chemist community to achieve greater efficiency, greener chemistry, and reduced time-to-market.

Like its peers in the spring cohort, ChemAlive will participate in a three months to develop its business model and project as well as develop prototypes. It will receive professional support and tailored mentoring sessions from a network of over 50,000 experts from 66 countries. The startups will benefit from various networking and collaborating opportunities both within Merck and externally. Moreover, the startups will receive funding of up to €50,000 to facilitate businesses growth.
