Virtual Reality

Innovation Forum Lausanne (IFL), a group of PhD science & business students whose goal is to foster the next generation of scientist-entrepreneurs, will be hosting their third annual conference next Monday at EPFL Rolex Learning Center. This special event marks the kick-off of the new Virtual Switzerland national network, one of the eleven National Thematic Networks (NTN) supported by the Federal Commission for Technology and Innovation (CTI).

VR/AR technologies will be at the heart of next week’s Innovation Forum Lausanne (IFL) 3rd annual conference hosted at the EPFL Rolex Learning Center. As the organizer explained to Startupticker, these technologies are rapidly transforming both private and professional environments.

Today we live between two worlds: our natural physical state and in an overlapping digitally-created sphere known as augmented reality or AR. When both environments merge, this becomes virtual reality or VR. Speakers and delegates at the conference will consider the significant implications of these disruptive technologies for human behaviour and economic sectors such as healthcare, construction, and entertainment.

The event also marks the kick-off of the new Virtual Switzerland national network, supported by the Federal Commission for Technology and Innovation (CTI), promoting technology transfer between the academic and corporate spheres, as well as the immersive technologies and simulation of virtual environments developed in Switzerland. It motivates new start-ups, SMEs, and thriving companies to push ahead with innovative projects to play an active part in Industry 4.0. An interview of Virtual Switzerland director, Christoffer Lund will be published by Startupticker next week.

Over 400 delegates are expected to hear from keynote speakers at leading companies and institutions, including EPFL, University of Lausanne (UNIL), Microsoft, Swisscom, as well as from inspiring start-ups such as VirtaMed and Idezo. Delegates will also be able to try out these technologies with exhibitors on site. More information about the event is avalaible on IFL website and event page.
