UrbanFarmers AG is a company committed to helping solve the world’s impending Food Security challenge through the development of urban, decentralized farm systems in cities. The company has won venture kick phase III.

There is something going on with UrbanFarmers: The company had a short appearance in the SF Tagesschau and was one of the guests at the famous TV show “Aeschbacher”. In addition the start-up presented a new product called GLOBE. The team this week won the venture kick phase III which means 130.000 CHF in seed capital.

UrbanFarmers develops closed-loop eco sustainable production systems, so called Aquaponics, between fish and vegetables. Our mission is to produce local food for the city, in the city. The farms will reside on city roof tops, vacant urban plots or abandoned industrial buildings in the city. UrbanFarmers is a social entrepreneur dedicated to economic, sustainable and social development in the city.

The private initiative venture kick is financed by the GEBERT RÜF STIFTUNG, the ERNST GÖHNER foundation, the OPO foundation, the AVINA STIFTUNG and FONDATION 1796. The project is managed by the IFJ Institut für Jungunternehmen in St. Gall. Since its inception in the autumn of 2007, venture kick has awarded more than 7.5 million francs in prize money. The efforts have resulted in the creation of more than 150 highly innovative companies. Furthermore, the supported startups have been able to attract equity, loans, support and prize money to the total tune of over 240 million francs.
