As energy storage is booming around the world, the Vaud-based startup born in 2016 with the goal of extending battery lifetime as a way to make energy transition sustainable is growing fast. Aurora’s Grid just announced the launch of its two first products. Moreover, two important new clients are expected soon.

After more than 2 years of development, Aurora’s Grid is proud to deliver its energy management for multiple applications (EMMA 1.0) software for Li-ion battery capable to extend the battery lifetime up to 40%. The software has been validated experimentally for three different battery applications: household, microgrid and district level. For the Swiss energy storage expert, this is a significant step forward made possible by the support of its customers, partners and the Swiss Federal Office of Energy (OFEN), explains Dimitri Torregrossa, Aurora’s Grid CEO.

In the same time, the second product Aurora’s Grid 3.0 is a battery emulating platform composed by a diagnostic and sizing toolboxes developed thanks to the feedbacks received by its customers. As the CEO explains, the diagnostic toolbox is a kind of “battery check-up” capable to monitor the state of health and detect wrong usages of the battery itself. Whereas, the sizing toolbox is a kind of “battery-plant asset analyst” capable to minimize the investment cost of the battery while maximizing its benefit for different services such as renewable self-consumption, peak shaving, primary frequency control and energy arbitrage.

Founded in October 2016, Aurora’s Grid has very quickly won business driving partnerships and clients in Western Switzerland. Counting already three clients, the startup based at EPFL Innovation Park is preparing to announce two more in the near future. A prospect that fills the company with pride as its skills are more and more appreciated and recognized, even outside Switzerland.

Set for growth

Speaking about the future with Dimitri Torregrossa, Aurora’s Grid is working hard to boost the industrialization of its software and to acquire a «big» client, namely an international player capable of highlighting Aurora’s Grid skills in a worldwide context. For the moment, the company is self-financed and is starting to generate cashflow, but the CEO and founder reckons that in case the startup needs to go faster, it will not hesitate to open the door to VCs for a two-digits Series A round. Aurora’s Grid plans to scale up its team and making a large impact in Europe and the USA in 2021-2023.
