The „Eidgenössische Stiftung zur Förderung schweizerischer Volkswirtschaft durch wissenschaftliche Forschung“ supports start-ups since 1996 with interest-free loans. The three newly supported start-ups are 3db Technologies, Amal Therapeutics and L.E.S.S.

Smart vehicle keys are convenient but insecure. 3db Technologies aims to change this. And vehicle keys are only one application field for the technology of spin-off from ETH Zurich. The technology is also suitable for integration into state-of-art mobile phones so that it can make mobile payment systems more secure. The company was founded in 2012 and is based in Zurich.

Amal Therapeutics is a spin-off of the University of Geneva and was founded in September 2012. The company is active in the fastest growing segment of the oncology market- Immunotherapy. Amal aims to develop and progress a new generation of therapeutic cancer vaccines. The technology platform allows the development of vaccines for several cancer indications.

With its technology L.E.S.S. enables the design of thinner, low-power consumption displays dedicated to the future tablets and ultrabooks. High-resolution displays demand a massive backlighting power provided today by a high number of white LEDs. L.E.S.S. has developed an alternative: a nanostructured fibre of the size of a human hair. Light distribution is no more obtained by adding up multiple LEDs but by continuously generating and distributing white light along the fibre. L.E.S.S SA was founded in 2012 and is headquartered in Lausanne.

The “Volkswirtschafts-Stiftung” supports companies that are not older than 12 months and use technology which was developed at a Swiss university (ETH, university or universities of applied science). The organisation provides interest-free loans in a very early phase of a start-up-project. The money is usually used for incorporation and IP costs. Every year the foundation supports three to six companies.
