On Saturday a team from ETH Zurich set a new world record for Human Powered Vehicles with two drivers. The team drove 83 km in one hour.

The goal of the ETH Focus Project cieo is to design and build the world´s fastest human powered vehicle by using all possible means and the state-of-the-art engineering provided by one of the European leading universities. Focus projects provide an opportunity for Bachelor students to test and advance their skills in various fields.

cieo is an ambitious tandem bicycle combining high-tech aerodynamics and material together with excellent athletic preparation of the sportsmen.

The athletes are lying on seats manufactured with Bcomp ampliTex biaxial and UD fabrics for a most comfortable ride. The cover of the half-monocoque body is reinforced with Bcomp’s powerRibs for an optimal weight and flexural stiffness ratio.

More information about the new world record can be found on the webpage of ETH Zurich, more information about the project on the cieo website.
