Turning smartphones, Internet routers and PCs into edge nodes of a Content Delivery Network in order to provide high quality Internet content for end-users. That is the idea behind Swiss-Russian startup Teleport Global, which raised 460’000 Swiss francs in a seed round.

The Swiss-Russian startup Teleport Global, which is incorporated in Zug, Switzerland with most of its team members based in Perm, Russia, operates a business in the Content Delivery Network (CDN) domain under the Teleport Media brand. The technology builds peer-to-peer networks in real time, which enables video streaming companies to upscale their ability to deliver video traffic to millions of customers simultaneously. Among its clients are Russian TV channel «Channel 1» and Canadian platform castr.io, which focuses on Indian audiences living abroad.

Teleport Media is currently developing the next version of its technology; powered by blockchain technology. It introduces the idea that anyone around the world can become the edge node of a CDN and receive remuneration for delivering network traffic. The solution does not require special equipment or skills, runs on regular endpoints such as PCs, smartphones and Internet routers and consumes the bandwidth not currently used by the device owner.

Now, the startup announced that it has raised 460’000 Swiss francs in a financing round with Blockchain Valley Ventures (BVV), a Swiss-based accelerator and venture firm specialized in blockchain startups. «Teleport Media is the rare and brilliant example of using the blockchain in the non-financial sphere. We have recognized the enormous potential of Teleport Media and are excited to support their talented team in accelerating their growth», says Heinrich Zetlmayer, founder and General Partner of BVV. Zetlmayer has joined the board of Teleport Global.

The focus of the Zug team is marketing and sales in Europa. The company plans to grow its headquarters in Zug and strengthen its ties to Switzerland. Co-founder Andrei Klimenko will be dedicating more and more time to the Swiss headquarters in the future, according to Teleport Media.
