AirGap apps

Tezos foundation has awarded Airgap a grant to integrate Tezos cryptocurrency in the Airgap Wallet. Airgap is a two-app solution for enhanced security in managing crypto assets: Airgap Vault app for offline mobile phones and Airgap Wallet for connected mobile smartphones. The solution delivers similar security levels when apps are installed on the same device.

How to safely store a crypto wallet and protect it from theft or hacker is one of the most significant aspects that users in the crypto scene have to address. Until now, crypto wallets and private keys can be stored on the web, computer or mobile phone; however, these alternatives are vulnerable to cyber-attacks and risks, which could result in massive losses. Hence, there is still a substantial need for robust security.

Airgap has developed a new solution comprising of two applications. Airgap Vault, installed on any mobile phone that is disconnected from the network (LTE, Bluetooth or WLAN) and hence transforms dedicated or old mobile devices into a ‘hardware wallet’ The Vault allows for random private key generation, secret storage, secret recovery and continuous check for connectivity root access and screenshot detection to prevent the device from being compromised.

The second app is the Airgap Wallet, installed on any connected mobile device to facilitate transactions or broadcast transactions. Through the two-way approach, guarantees higher security, protecting the users from any potential risks. The two apps connect through QR codes.

For managing smaller funds, Airgap allows users to run both apps on a single device, which guarantees better security than using one app.

“Our solution is based on several years of experience and market analysis of the crypto ecosystem. Our team of six members is specialized in developing mobile and web applications with a focus on mobile security”, says Pascal Brun, Co-founder of Airgap.

The apps are available for iOS and Andriod phones and have attracted more than 10’000 users that downloaded the app. The Wallet supports currencies such as æternity, Ethereum, Bitcoin and now Tezos. More tokens and protocols will be implemented in the near future.

Tezos Foundation funds Airgap’s plans
“Thanks to the generous grant from the Tezos Foundation we were able to integrate Tezos in AirGap. With the beta or limited release, users can now create new addresses and transactions with AirGap. A few weeks after the beta version, we will release the full support where the creation of "kt" addresses and delegation are possible. We are also looking forward to providing more tools for the Tezos ecosystem”, as announced in the press release.

Since 2018, the Tezos Foundation issues grants to support developers globally in the development of mobile applications and wallets that are easier to build and use. The Tezos Foundation’s core mission is to support the long-term success of the Tezos protocol and ecosystem. By funding projects imagined by scientists, researchers, developers, entrepreneurs, and enthusiasts, the Foundation encourages decentralized development and robust participation.
