The European Commission has awarded Europe's most promising digital innovations emerging from EU funded research and innovation projects. The winner for the Tech for Society category is amphiro, a spin-off company from ETH Zurich.

The Innovation Radar is an EC initiative to identify high-potential innovations and innovators in EU-funded research and innovation ICT projects.  48 of the best EU-funded innovators have been identified through this initiative to compete with their EU-funded innovation in five categories for the Innovation Radar Prize 2017. These SMEs, university teams, spinoffs and start-ups reflect the diversity of EU-funded research and innovation and come from every corner of Europe.

Among the winners of the latest Innovation Radar Prize in the category Tech for Society is amphiro. This prize category aims to recognise new technologies impacting society and citizens, developed in EU-funded research and innovation projects.

With the support of the EU-funded DAIAD project amphiro managed to develop an energy-autarkic smart shower monitor - the amphiro b1 - which allows users to keep track of their energy and water consumption using an app on their smartphone. The amphiro b1 is already available on the market. DAIAD is a research project funded by European Commission’s 7th Framework Programme which run from 2014 to 2017. The goal of the project was to address the challenge of improving the management of water resources through real-time knowledge of water consumption, in order to improve societal awareness, induce sustainable changes in consumer behaviour, and explore new water demand management strategies.
