The winners of ten verticals of the Extreme Tech Challenge have been announced last week at CES, the largest technology trade show worldwide. Biowatch has been awarded as best "Data & Analytics" start-up.

Extreme Tech Challenge (XTC) is a worldwide competition that empowers entrepreneurs and their companies by providing visibility, resources, and it gives competitors the ability to grow exponentially in scale and knowledge at a low to no incremental cost. XTC strives to inspire and provide growth to up and coming entrepreneurs and businesses by surrounding them with mentors to help guide them as they build on product success with business success.

XTC pulls this all together into an experience that money cannot buy with showcase events at the world's largest technology trade show, CES, and also at Sir Richard Branson's own Necker Island.

At CES last week, the winners of ten verticals have been announced. Among the winners is Biowatch. The Martigny-based start-up was named winner in the category Data & Analytics. “We are greatful to the Xtreme Tech Challenge team and can’t wait to win the main prize next year in the Virgin British Islands”, comments the team in a post on the website.

Biowatch developed a wearable biometric technology as an alternative solution to current authentication methods (PIN, passwords, cards, keys, fingerprint, face), based on vein recognition. The company developed a module, which fits into the strap of any watch, identifies the user from their unique vein pattern, hence transforming their wristwatch into a means of identification. Biowatch completed a financing round at the beginning of 2017 and demonstrated a fully functional prototype for the first time in June.
