DECENT is an Open-Source decentralized content distribution platform that utilizes Blockchain to ensure trust and security for content creators and enterprises. After the raising over $4.2 million worth of Bitcoins from their Initial Coin Offering, the startup expanded to China and closed additional partnerships.

The Geneva-based startup DECENT, is a Blockchain-technology-based digital content publishing and sharing platform for content creators and consumers. Being censor-free and independent, the platform ensures the confidentiality of information, preventing access and modification from third parties. Any content distributed over DECENT stays encrypted until the intended recipient uses the right key to decrypt it for consumption. With this business model, the founders, Matej Michalko and Matej Boda aim at creating an alternative model for authors who publish books, like Amazon or sell to present their music on iTunes.

DECENTs technology allows content creators and enterprises to build a wide variety of applications on the open-source protocol to suit their requirements. DECENT based apps can be used for blogs, music publishing and streaming, e-book publishing, software sales, indie games development and more. Unlike other platforms, DECENT eliminates middlemen and third parties to maximize content creators' profits.

During the course of last year the startup achieved a number of milestones:

In September 2016, DECENT launched its ICO (Initial Coin Offering: Crowdfunding of Blockchain Ecosystem) in association with CCEDK, a Danish cryptocurrency startup crowdfunding solutions provider. The ICO gained traction, raising over 4138 BTC in less than 2 days. Over 5881 BTC (about $4.2 million) at the end of the ICO on 6th November. This was contributed by over 4000 participants in in support of DECENT’s mission to eliminate middlemen from the global exchange.

Alongside their ICO, DECENT raised 500,000 euros in funding from Element Capital LLC, a US-Chinese fund and gained an international outreach. The success of their ICO helped them to close international partnerships and increased global exposure. Decent set foot in China, and became part of a Shanghai-based JadeValue FinTech V.2 Incubator. In joining the program, DECENT opened a new office in China to help DECENT cater for the Chinese content creators and consumers.

For 2017 the startup has laid its plans and hopes to achieve further milestones. Some of their future plans include activating their new website, launching the DECENT network between the first and second quarter, and introducing DECENT News in the third and fourth quarter.
