The House of Lab Science is a new laboratory technology innovation cluster in Hombrechtikon, Zurich. As of April 2022, almost 1000 square meters of new laboratory rooms will open to the public. Besides infrastructure, this hub offers additional services as well as a platform for start-ups, large companies, SMEs and industry associations to foster innovation and growth. Future tenants can influence the details of the definitive service range.

Founded in June 2021 and based in the Greater Zürich Area, the House of Lab Science AG (HLS) in Hombrechtikon is the brainchild of Hans Noser, Founder and Chairman of the Board. The concept was initiated in 2015 by Toolpoint, the network of the Swiss laboratory industry, to make the industry more visible in Switzerland by developing innovation parks that serve the lab tech and life sciences sector. HLS is herewith established as a private initiative to help ecosystem players to grow and get closer to customers across Switzerland.

“Lab tech is used in many industries to analyse and synthesise chemical or biological laboratory processes. It relieves the employees and increases the reliability and efficiency in the laboratories. In Switzerland, the potential of this new industry was recognised early on – many world market leaders in laboratory automation have their headquarters or large sites in Switzerland”, say Noser.

Built on 8,000 square meters, of which 1000 square meters are designated for modular laboratory rooms, the new premises offer startups, SMEs and larger laboratory technology companies the opportunity to innovate in or use lab technology. As part of its “Services 4 Lab as a Service” concept, HLS takes care of non-R&D-related activities such as lab, facility, innovation, ICT management, and offers a catalogue of over 40 on-and off-site services, including events for private and public activities. These will be accessible as of 01.04.2022.

“With some startup and established companies like HSE, are already under our roof, we are positive that the first services will be used soon prior to April,” says Christian Hugo Hoffmann, the Initiative’s CEO. The final pricing models and the entire services catalogue are still under construction as the HLS team continues discussions with potential tenants to determine which pricing/subscription model would work best.

Partnerships are also vital for HLS to broaden its ecosystem. This week, the initiative confirmed partnerships with Varioserv, Bio-Technopark in Schlieren, and the Kalaidos University of Applied Sciences with whom they designed the first university recognised program that will be available in the first half of 2022.

“I’m delighted and honoured to build HLS over the next years together with my team. The House of Lab Science AG is an innovative private initiative to market a higher quality laboratory, facility, and innovation management offering as Services 4 Lab as a Service. The result will be a flourishing ecosystem and new jobs in a key Swiss industry of the future, not just in Hombrechtikon, but to be repeated in and beyond the Greater Zurich Area.”

Interested parties seeking to join the lab tech cluster are invited to visit the HLS website or send an email. Eligible are startups of at least two years that are seeking lab tech, infrastructure for analytics and diagnostics.
