GenomSys, a Biopôle based pioneer in the development and adoption of the ISO/IEC 23092 MPEG-G open standard for genomic data, announces the launch and the successful CE-marking of its GenomSys Variant Analyzer. The first tool worldwide that enables genomic professionals to leverage the benefits of the new genomic standard (MPEG-G) and the most updated databases on human genetic variants.

GenomSys Variant Analyzer is the startup first product to run natively on MPEG-G, an ISO standard for genomic data representation, for analytical purposes, and directly impact genomic experts in the laboratories to leverage the new genomic standard and its benefits fully.

Contacted by Startupticker.ch, GenomSys Marketing Manager Lucas Laner explains that the release of GenomSys Variant Analyzer is a milestone for the company, as it is the worldwide first – to its knowledge – genomic analysis software fully running on the ISO/IEC-23092 genomic data standard (MPEG-G) with a direct impact on the genomic community. Combining deep expertise in data compression and computing with life sciences and bioinformatics capabilities, the technology developed by GenomSys allows for efficient processing and sharing of DNA data. In addition it integrates the variant databases curated by Varsom developed by the Swiss start-up Saphetor.

“It is not only us that see the trend moving to whole-exome or whole-genome analysis. For example, the NIH [US National Institutes of Health] predicts that everyone will have their genome sequenced by 2030 at the latest. We have to deal with this vast amount of data more reliably and efficiently because each dataset represents an individual human being and time is crucial in medicine. GenomSys Variant Analyzer takes full advantage of MPEG-G, and thanks to its user-friendly dashboard and cloud-based architecture it simplifies the life of geneticists allowing them to focus on the analysis itself and not on bioinformatics,” says Alessio Ascari, GenomSys CEO.

In April this year, the startup released another product GenomSys MPEG-G Codec Suite, with a different purpose: to transform legacy formats into MPEG-G. Last summer, another version of GenomSys Variant Analyzer was silently recently to gain feedback on the software.
