Four Swiss start-ups selected for the EIT Food Acceleration Network

EIT Food announced the high-impact agrifood startups that will join the EIT Food Acceleration Network (EIT FAN) 2021 in its 6 innovation hubs spread across Europe. The chosen startups will benefit from top industry connections, specifically tailored programmes, and key resources to accelerate their growth and impact.

This year’s EIT FAN participants were selected from a record number of applications, making it the most competitive cohort of EIT Food's programme to date. Over 600 startups from across the EU and its associated countries were evaluated online by more than 130 experts from the agrifood industry. Throughout May, 120 agrifood startups advanced to a second evaluation round. Over an entire week, short-listed startups were invited to present their solution in front of diverse evaluation panels during this year’s technology deep-dive sessions. 60 start-ups were selected among them are four companies from Switzerland. They will join the innovation hub in Lausanne. The selected companies include:

Authena has developed blockchain-based technology to track supply chains and create interactive end-to-end communication between manufacturers and end users. The company is using it to fight counterfeiting, parallel imports, and the detour of pharmaceutical products, for example, on the front lines worldwide. Using NFC transmitters that act as an electronic seal, manufacturers can guarantee the authenticity of their products and detect unauthorized interactions with their goods in real time. The company is active in Agro, Pharma, Industrial & Food.

Eaternity supports organizations worldwide in calculating the exact environmental footprint of their food. Its unique realtime calculation engine allows to address allergen and nutrition declarations, as well as it delivers a dynamic calculation of the carbon footprint of meals and restaurants.

Nectariss developed a unique fungal-based precision fermentation platform for novel food production. The goal is to make a deep impact in the luxury and food markets by developing natural flavors of truffle fungi. According to the start-up all natural flavors developed by Nectariss are genuine and display the depth and complexity of real truffles.

REM Analytics’ analytical platform offers an advanced method of DNA analysis. Its unique approach is a useful instrument to assess microbiome composition, food authenticity and food safety. Application fields include the development of living bacteria therapeutics in the food and cosmetic sectors, measurement of food composition (i.e. labeling accuracy and commercial fraud), identification of GMO in products, the detection of pathogens, and traceability. REM Analytics provides a complete development service from proof of concept to production-ready prototype.
