The foundation supporting technological entrepreneurship in the canton of Geneva, FONGIT, announces two new beneficiaries of the FONGIT Innovation Fund (FIF), both receiving growth funding. MagicTomato received CHF 250,000 and The Content Engine received CHF 200,000, both in the form of loans. These loans aim to foster the scale up of promising companies from Geneva.

MagicTomato makes it possible to get local & natural groceries at home the same day. The startup brings together local artisans and technology to offer a service that matches urban lifestyle needs. The automated platform connects all stakeholders, including the community, to make the Magic happen. The start-up is based on ethical and sustainable values and includes 3 major impacts: elimination of food waste, reduction of almost all plastic packaging and the increase of revenue for local suppliers. The digital grocery shop is B-Corp certified and won the Swiss Ethics Award in 2019. It plans to expand into other cantons, making the start-up a thriving business. Their handling of the COVID19 crisis has allowed them to seize new opportunities, gaining new market shares and developing their partnerships.

The Content Engine is a technology platform, a workflow and an extensive creativity network that provides high quality content at high volume for organisations seeking to build global audiences for impact. The platform combines new technologies, such as machine-learning, with best-in-class editorial and workflow processes. The company works with the most significant organizations in the world to publish engaging content every day across multiple channels and shape their conversations. Customers include a number of UN agencies, and multinational corporations including P&G, Adecco and Holcim. The company is built by the former leadership of the World Economic Forum’s digital communications team, winners of the 2018 European Communications Team of The Year.

The FONGIT Innovation Fund (FIF)

Launched in February 2021, the FIF is a financing tool resulting from the collaboration between FONGIT and the State of Geneva. This fund aims to accelerate innovation within Universities, Hautes Ecoles and other Geneva-based research institutions suchas CERN. All startups and scale-ups registered in the Geneva commercial register, which are growing rapidly in a technological environment, and supporting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are eligible. The FIF was created to stimulate innovation and to address the lack of available funds, especially in the initial seed phase.
