Symbolic image coaching

Aiming at ‘studentpreneurs’, the First Ventures program offers up to CHF 150,000 during 18 months to help aspiring founders accelerate their innovative projects. Two projects have been selected to benefit from this program.

The First Ventures program is an initiative of the Gebert Rüf Stiftung and swiss universities, dedicated to supporting graduates of universities of applied sciences. The program promotes research and development projects enabling students to develop their innovative business idea in their thesis and pursue it after graduation. Besides the financial contribution, the program offers an individually tailored coaching program.

The two projects that made it through the recent selection round are:

Microcyte – Alexander Küenzi
Viral or bacterial infections and blood anaemias are the most common diseases that only medical specialists can identify and treat. In medical practices, blood counts must be performed on large, heavy, expensive flow cytometers. As part of his master’s thesis, Microcyte is developing a pocket-sized haematology device that analyses blood samples using just a drop of blood collected from the finger. The mobile solution for blood analysis is based on an innovative image-based flow cytometric approach, which uses microfluidic chips without carrier fluid or chemical liquids. Regions of the world that do not have widespread medical coverage can thus perform high-quality analyses at a low cost. Even in Europe, mobile caregivers can perform large blood counts on patients to make quick decisions.

SideLights – Arthur Claessens
developed by Claess’, SideLights is an innovative bicycle lighting system that helps ensure cyclists’ safety in traffic. Attached to the inside of the handlebar ends, it offers an easy-to-use light system that allows cyclists to be visible at a 360 degrees angle. Thanks to its design, it is compatible with most bicycles with or without electric assistance. SideLights is also equipped with two interchangeable, USB rechargeable batteries integrated into the handlebars. As Claess’ first product, it is positioned to become an established brand in bicycle accessories that make the daily life of cyclists safer and easier.
