Renesas Electronics Corporation, a premier supplier of advanced semiconductor solutions with 20,000 employees, and 3db Access AG, a young fabless semiconductor company based in Thalwil and specializing in secure ultra-wideband low power chips, announced a collaboration. The goal is to bring best-in-class secure access solutions to the connected smart home, Internet of Things (IoT), Industry 4.0, mobile computing, and connected vehicle applications.
3db Access AG, a spin-off from ETH Zurich established in 2013, provides accurate and secure ultra-wideband (UWB) positioning solutions that enable access to vehicles, buildings, tracking tags, IoT devices, and mobile payment applications. Renesas will license 3db UWB technology. The collaboration combines each company’s technical leadership in performance, size reduction, ultra-low power consumption, and security to deliver breakthrough multi-receiver UWB solutions to the global market.

Renesas and 3db Access are discussing terms of business engagement that will enable the Swiss start-up to develop new UWB solutions for every market space, in addition to bringing existing UWB solutions to the Renesas portfolio.
