Zurich-based Lakestar raised $735 million for its third generation of Venture Capital funds. The new funds will be invested mainly in Europe.

Lakestar founded in 2012 by Klaus Hommels is one of the top players in the Venture Capital industry worldwide. The company has an impressive track record with investments in AirBnB, Spotify, Skype and GetYourGuide. Lakestar has alos invested in a number of other Swiss start-ups including Avrios, Teralytics and Auterion.

Yesterday Lakestar announced the closing of its third generation of funds. The money will be invested mainly in Europe. According to a report from Reuters one third will flow to early stage start-ups and two thirds to later stage companies.

The news came hot on the heels of similar announcements from other big European players. Last week London-based Atomico announced the closing of its fifth found. At $820 million, the fund size enables the investor to continue to invest at Series B and C into breakout companies. In the past Atomico has invested in Beekeeper, Teralytics and Scandit.
