AgroSustain's R&D scientist, Florian Guignard, accepted a CHF10'000 cheque after winning the startup pitch competition of the  Swiss-Colombian Academia-Industry Camp (AIT Colombia). The Swiss startup aims to reduce food waste by extending the shelflife of fruits and vegetables.

The Swiss-Colombian Academia-Industry Camp is organised by the Centro Latinoamericano - Suizo at the  University of St.Gallen, State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI), ICETEX and Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana.

The program kicked off last year in Switzerland, hosting startups from both Colombia. After the completion of the second half of the program in February in Bogota (Colombia), the committee awarded the most outstanding solutions. Inmotion Group from Colombia and AgroSustain from Switzerland represented by the startup's R&D scientist, Florian Guignard, took home an award prize of CHF10'000 each.

AgroSustain is developing natural solutions to stop and prevent the development of moulds on agronomically important crops in post-harvest. Through its innovation, the startup is addressing one of the most pressing challenges concerning food waste, a segment of the food industry that is evaluated at an equivalent of USD 1’000 billion, out of which USD 60 billion of fruits and vegetables is lost due to fungal pathogens in post-harvest.

Agrosustain plans to launch three product lines for most traded goods such as bananas, long stored crops such as apples and for highly perishable produce such as berries. Market entry is scheduled for 2022 in the US, and Latin America followed by Europe.
