Proton Technologies’ Virtual Private Network service has won two award categories of the BestVPN.com Awards. ProtonVPN offers a solid encryption service allowing users to browse the web without being tracked and to bypass online censorship blocks.

BestVPN.com Awards recognize the most outstanding VPN services on the market to increase transparency and improve standards across the whole industry. After an expert team had carefully assessed submitted VPNs and scrutinising how they measure up in the various key metrics including as speed performance, encryption strength, privacy policy, legal jurisdiction among others, respected members of the security industry were invited into the process to ensure objectivity and transparency. Seven categories were awarded.

Two award categories – Best Newcomer and Best Free – were awarded to ProtonVPN, developed by the Swiss team of Proton Technologies AG (protonMail). The category «Best Newcomer» aims to recognise the best breakthrough providers hitting the scene in the past 12 months and the category «Best free» recognises the most outstanding free VPN services.

According to BestVPN.comp Awards, ProtonVPN’s free tier has zero data or time limits, which on its own makes it the most useful free VPN service out there. Although described by ProtonVPN as “slow”, our speed testes found its free servers to be faster than those from many paid-for VPN-services.”

While VPNs have existed for many years, ProtonVPN draws upon its extensive security experience and introduces several important security innovations. After more than 1 year of development, and four months of beta testing by over 10’000 members of the ProtonMail community, the company released its ProtonVPN to the public to enhance internet privacy and security. “Since we first launched ProtonVPN, we have seen an overwhelming response from the community, and today ProtonVPN provides secure Internet for hundreds of thousands of people around the world.”

ProtonVPN features a Secure Core architecture whose routes traffic through multiple encrypted tunnels in multiple countries to better defend against network-based attacks. The service also features seamless integration with the Tor anonymity network. ProtonVPN operates under Swiss jurisdiction and is protected by some of the world’s strongest privacy laws. ProtonVPN also stands out for its transparency as it is perhaps the only VPN service on the market today that is developed by a team that is publicly known, with strong security and privacy credentials.
