DayOne Lab has launched to boost innovation in Basel

The DayOne Initiative has launched the DayOne Lab to support and advance precision medicine and digital health innovations in Basel. The Lab supports collaborative projects with access to experts and infrastructure including physical space when needed. Applications can now be submitted.

Following the kick-off event with 70 interested innovators at the end of January, the DayOne Lab is now officially open. As part of the DayOne program, DayOne Lab seeks to bring together entrepreneurs, experts from industry, healthcare providers, academia, patients and all healthcare enthusiasts to co-create the future of Healthcare. Both as a physical and virtual space, the lab provides a venue for healthcare innovators to meet and work as well as attract partners and support. OneDay Lab is managed by BaselArea.Swiss on behalf of the Canton of Basel Stadt, a core team with representatives from different backgrounds and is supported by various partners.

The lab has already supported some projects. The first physical project is a health hacking project designed to assist patients gain control of their health. A number of projects that operate without a physical space started during 2017. Current projects include: Health Hacking - an association to promote and support citizen science based health hacking projects; Blockchain in Healthcare - Investigation of potential uses of blockchain in healthcare (Report due in Feb 2018) and DigitalCenter - build an open innovation platform focused on chronic diseases.

As part of its activities, the Lab is offering support to projects aimed at improving the lives of patients. Selected projects will get access to collaboration partners and experts, a physical space and the right to describe themselves as a DayOne project to gather more support where a physical space is not needed, and access to appropriate tools, consulting including to those provided by partners, and access to the BaselArea.Swiss venture assessment service.

Eligible to apply are projects from a pre start-up looking for validation, start-ups looking to prototype, corporates wanting to access open innovation and interested stakeholders that want to work on the bottlenecks for healthcare innovation. Interested parties are invited to download, fill and submit the application form.
