Climate-KIC is looking for cleantech startups with breakthrough ideas that have a substantial impact on climate change. Selected startups will attend an 18 months acceleration program. Startups that successfully complete all three stages of the program will receive grants of up to €85.000.

The Climate-KIC Accelerator Programme is an 18-months-program for early stage cleantech startups designed to support startup teams in shaping their ideas to counter climate change. Last year 10 teams were allowed to enter the boot camp, 6 of them including ChemAlive, Insolight, Smart Home Technology, TreaTech, InstaHeat and Power4All entered the programme.

Registration for the 2017 Climate-KIC Accelerator program is now open and will close on 12 March 2017. Eligible to apply are startup teams with ideas based around a new technology or service in areas like sustainable land use, finance, urban transition, circular economy, energy production or efficiency. The accelerator program accepts ideas with high potential for both commercial viability and climate impact.

Selected teams will be invited to attend a two-day boot camp which will take place on 7 and 8 April 2017, and will be led by an experienced entrepreneur and start-up coach.

Following the boot camp, 4-5 best startups will enter the Climate-KIC Accelerator Programme and will receive a grant of each €10'000. The programme runs in 3 stages, each stage lasting for 6 months. During each stage, they will receive all the knowledge, resources, tools and coaching that a cleantech startup requires to becoming successful in the market. At the end of each stage startups pitch to experts and the best startups are awarded.

  1. In the first stage, startups will attend a fundamental camp where they learn more about the basics of running a successful start-up. They will be coached on how to find their market niche, develop a financial model and figure out how to make money and scale their business. The best startups at this stage will receive a grant of up to € 10,000.

  2. In the second stage, teams focus on validating their ideas as they solve real customer problems and talk to customers to verify their business assumptions. The best startup is awarded a grant of up to € 25,000.

  3. In the third and last stage, startups find launching customers, development partners or investors and form partnerships to make them grow fast. The best startups will receive a grant of up to € 50,000.
