World smallest micro-projector developer Lemoptix has raised an undisclosed amount from existing investors, the Swiss business angel group Go-Beyond and a strategic partner, Swisscom Ventures.

The funds raised shall be used to boost the company’s offering to the automotive head up displays (HUD), consumer mobile and wearable displays markets.

Lemoptix provides micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) based micro-projection solutions for embedded applications in consumer mobile and automotive markets. The company develops next generation embeddable micro-projection solutions that enable disruptive laser projection applications and contribute to their mass market adoption. Such laser projection applications range from automotive head up displays (HUD) to embedded projectors in smartphones and low power wearable displays. Lemoptix has developed multidisciplinary and world-leading expertise in MEMS-mirror modelling, design and fabrication; System and module development, including optical and electronics subsystems.

Lemoptix recently demonstrated its latest technology at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2014 in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. The demonstration included the world's smallest optical engine for laser micro-projectors with unparalleled speckle reduction, display resolution and luminosity. On 6th February, CTO Nicolas Abele presented speckle reduction techniques for embeddable MEMS-based laser micro-projectors at the Photonics West tradeshow in San Francisco, California, USA.
