On the hand Compliant Concept, Nhumi and Pandora are active in different industries. But on the other hand each company ensures more safety – for patients, physicians and divers.

All new companies with the CTI Start-up label are developing totally new and innovative products and solutions. But quite often their products build on a traditional strength of Switzerland. The three companies which were awarded with the label yesterday are a good example: they are all ensuring safety in different fields continuing the Swiss tradition of safe and reliable products.

The Compliant Concept team is developing a novel, flexible hospital bed system which prevents long-term bedridden patients in hospitals and nursing homes from developing much-feared decubitus ulcers, better known as bed-sores. The bed concept is based on a special slatted frame, made of “intelligent” materials, and a new mattress which, in combination, ensure that the bedridden occupant does not remain motionless in the same position for too long, but is gently and firmly moved. Before the bed system will enter the market Compliant Concept, based in Dübendorf, will launch a monitoring system which logs the patient's movements and supports nurses to detect patients with a risk of getting decubitus ulcers.

Nhumi Technologies from Zurich has launched a website in November providing a direct access to the safety information of US marketed drugs. The new web site by Nhumi presents adverse events reported to the U.S. FDA since 2005. It identifies the most relevant safety information and depicts it on a virtual model of the human anatomy showing body parts that are most adversely affected by a drug. Additionally, it describes all data graphically with charts and concise tables. Visitors to the site can quickly explore the safety profile of a single drug and compare it to that of other drugs. They can even focus on a specific group of patients easily by selecting the medical condition, age, gender, or co-medication that best fit their requests.

The mission of Pandora Underwater Equipment from Lausanne is to attract and keep more people in scuba diving by improving safety for dive schools, dive instructors, novice and trainee divers. Pandora is developing, manufacturing, marketing and selling premium products for scuba diving activities and satety. The first product of the start-up is called SUBA, the world’s first switch in /switch out cruise control for scuba divers, to simplify dive management by providing automatic control of descent, ascent, level control and other functions according to established safety norms and safety processes.
