Returns due to wrong size purchases from online stores are a significant problem for the fashion industry. With its SizeEngine technology, Swiss startup EyeFitU helps online retailers to address this issue and enables them to personalize their offering and build brand trust. The B2B SaaS solution is already present in over 100 stores in ten countries worldwide.

Using AI, EyeFitU developed SizeEngine, a patented and world’s first technology that allows matching brand’s size charts to consumers’ body sizes and fit preferences, giving size suggestions for items such as garments, shoes and accessories. The platform combines statistical data by users, brands/retailers with user feedback to continuously improve the algorithm and sizing recommendations.

With the E-commerce boom in the fashion industry and their push to a DTC (direct to consumer) approach, more people are likely to purchase wrong sizes and/order multiples sizes of the same garment, also known as bracketing, resulting in high return rates and a drastic climate impact as returns increase the amount of C02 emissions produced. The majority of the returned items also end up in landfills, exacerbating the climate impact.

Following its product debut in 2017 as a B2C company, EyeFitU launched a mobile Application powered by its SizeEngine and attracted over 600 brands and 50+ single and multi-brand online stores. Towards the end of 2018, the engine had been generating over one million size recommendations every month.

From B2C to B2B
In 2019, EyeFitU shifted its focus to provide its sizing technology directly to brands and online retailers, helping them to enhance their sustainability scores, improve online conversion rates, and obtain advanced analytics covering customers anthropometric measurements and behavioural analytics for manufacturing optimization. Thanks to being a plug and play solution, the size engine is easy and faster to integrate into any system.

Today, the SizeEngine SaaS platform is used by over 100 online stores and brands, such as Galvan London, Odlo, Sea, Assos of Switzerland, Malena Lingerie, Oaseas or Bon A’ Parte– and thus present in Switzerland, the United States, Canada, UK, Japan, Denmark, Italy, The Netherlands, Argentina and Australia. It is a Shopify App and an Oracle Commerce Cloud, among other partners.

By bringing the solution directly to businesses, EyeFitU is helping to solve the fashion industry’s challenges by engaging with the brands and manufacturers. Indeed, as Isabelle Ohnemus, Founder and CEO of EyeFitU, revealed to Startupticker, the company has enabled companies to increase their average order value by more than 45 percent and decrease their return rates than 55 percent. Revenues at EyeFitU have also grown significantly from their shift to B2B in 2019.

The store of the Future relies on EyeFitU
Further success has been the integration of SizeEngine in the Store of the Future launched in Paris. Powered by Oracle Retail, the concept aims to merge the real- and digital worlds by providing an omnichannel integrated experience fuelled by data to enhance the customer journey. Shoppers have the opportunity to engage with various technologies, including the SizeEngine, coming in different formats such as at Point of Sale systems, with QR codes for instant sizing, in smart mirrors and through digital customer assistants.

Looking ahead, EyeFitU and its team of eight full-time employees aim to raise additional equity capital to scale the business, boost marketing activities and expand its team. The capital will add to its secured capital of CHF 10 million.
